We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team. As the Controller, you will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an accounting and reporting system that accurately reflects the financial position of the Company and its affiliates. This role requires a thorough understanding of all finance-related activities, including business planning, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and negotiations. The Controller is a strategic finance leader with the skills and experience to manage and direct a team of financial professionals, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate financial accounting department staff; serve as a coach and mentor and provide periodic evaluations.
  • Cash Management, to include daily review of bank deposits and available cash, recommendations on check runs, and monitoring operating line of credit.
  • Create, update, and implement all required accounting department policies to ensure all tasks are completely and accurately documented.
  • Accountable for the monthly and year end general ledger closing processes and preparation of financial statements.
  • Recognize patterns in company revenues and expenses and recommend solutions for any issues that are identified.
  • Ensure accurate account balances through a monthly reconciliation process of all balance sheet accounts. Research reconciliation variances, prepare and post adjusting journal entries as necessary.
  • Reconcile physical counts of store inventory, to ensure all significant variances are properly investigated and resolved, and book inventory is properly adjusted to reflect actual physical counts.
  • Provide answers and guidance to the Executive Team and other members of leadership regarding spending and budget questions.
  • Responsible for overall record retention policy for the Company to include organization, storing and destroying as outlined.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the Ware Butler leadership team to ensure all audit deliverables are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and planning process. Provide support to Operations Leadership, prepare analysis as needed to identify anomalies in prior periods that would impact budgets.
  • Assists with special projects and assignments related to financial decisions.
  • Other tasks as assigned by executive management.

Skills:

  • 8 years of progressive professional experience in accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or relevant combination of experience/education.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, including GAAP principals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Experience with Epicor software is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proven track record in setting priorities; exceptional analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
  • High ethical standards and integrity in all financial management processes and decisions.
  • A passion for delivering a positive experience for our customers, vendors, and Ware Butler teammates.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
