Television Academy is Hiring a Manager, Publications/Print & Digital Content Editor Near Los Angeles, CA

The Television Academy, based in the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood, California, is a nonprofit organization devoted to celebrating and empowering storytellers to push the boundaries of what Television can be. The only major organization fully representing the television and broadband screen entertainment industry, it is made up of nearly 20,000 members, representing 31 professional peer groups, including performers, directors, producers, art directors and various other artisans, technicians and executives.

The Television Academy recognizes excellence among its peers with the Emmy award, culminating in the Primetime Emmy Awards telecast each fall. The Television Academy also produces several other awards shows and a variety of activities and events for its members throughout the year. These events are featured across the Academy's digital platforms and in its award-winning emmy magazine.

Manager, Publications/Print & Digital Content Editor

Position is full-time, exempt, salary rate $66,000 annually, hybrid (3 days in office currently; subject to change)

Summary of Position

The Print & Digital Content Editor guides the selection, commissioning and management of original editorial content for the Television Academy website and provides high-level editorial support to emmy magazine — conceiving and assigning articles, editing manuscripts, writing display copy and articles as needed, and more. This position also executes the production of original editorial content for the website. In addition, this position works closely with the Marketing/Communications, website and Social Media teams to ensure editorial standards and strategies align with Academy brand standards, goals and content is being maximized across Academy platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities

Print & Digital

  • In collaboration with editorial staff, freelance contributors, seeks wide-ranging, inclusive subjects representative of the Television Academy's peer groups and the television industry as a whole.
  • Evaluates story pitches.
  • Plans editorial content and makes appropriate assignments.
  • Establishes and enforces deadlines to keep on schedule.
  • Liaises with network and personal publicists to obtain cooperation of story subjects and other participants.
  • Liaises with creative director, photography editor, and contributors as needed.
  • Contributes articles and other copy as needed.
  • Fact-checks and edits copy.
  • Writes captions, headlines, subheads, and other ancillary copy as needed.
  • Attends content planning meetings.
  • Ensures that all editorial complies with ethical codes of practice and legal guidelines.

Print

  • Liaises with creative director and photography editor on photo shoots and layouts as needed.
  • Manages content style guide and maintenance strategies, develops and enforces style standards balancing digital space best practices with grammar standards, editorial voice, tone, Television Academy brand considerations and other elements.

Digital

  • Plans and maintains annual production schedule for Emmys.com.
  • Posts editorial content on the website as needed, including articles and photo galleries, as assigned or provided.
  • Supports content production teams in developing and delivering original and derivative material, such as feature articles and photo galleries and other forms of content as needed. Edits and contributes copy across a range of areas: captions, metadata descriptions, etc. Adapts emmy magazine content for publication on digital platforms.
  • Stays abreast of trends, technical developments and new tools in the digital content production arena, in order to maximize resources, optimize workflow, increase productivity and elevate production quality wherever possible.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree in Journalism or related field
  • Minimum 3 years digital content production experience in a creative, fast-paced environment with deadline responsibilities strongly preferred.
  • Strong command of spelling, grammar, news and feature writing and copyediting at a professional level required.
  • Interest in, and knowledge of, the television industry, including key companies, VIPs and trends in broadcast, cable and digital media.
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn, online content management systems, web authoring software, and exposure to HTML/CSS code.
  • Intermediate-level or higher command of, or ability to learn, photo/graphics content editing software preferred; prior work with video content a plus.
  • Experience with, or ability to learn, metadata optimization and digital asset management.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms.
  • Team-development skills and experience training individuals in small groups and one-on-one strongly preferred.
  • Team player with positive, proactive, problem-solving attitude
  • Self-motivated, with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Available to work evenings and/or weekends if required
