Description

Position Objective: Assist in managing the day-to-day academic and transition services of students with intellectual disabilities at the On Campus Transition Program at the University of North Florida.

Position(s) Supervised: On-site AmeriCorps Members

The Arc Jacksonville is looking for an Academic Services Coordinator for the On-Campus Transition (OCT) Program at the University of North Florida. OCT serves students ages 18-26 with intellectual differences and allows them the opportunity to enjoy the college experience. OCT students become immersed in all aspects of college life by auditing UNF courses, joining campus organizations and clubs, and participating in recreational/leisure activities that are available to all UNF students. OCT students also can live in either on or off-campus student housing, and they receive small group tutoring and mentoring. The program is housed at the University of North Florida. The ideal candidate will be an educator, self-starter, and passionate about The Arc Jacksonville. They will also help our leadership convey our mission. The Arc Jacksonville serves and advocates for individuals with intellectual and developmental differences to achieve their full potential and to participate in community life.

Program Specific Job Requirements:

  • Coordinates all academic services for the OCT program, to include assisting the Admissions and Family Support Coordinator with registration of the OCT students in their UNF courses, coordination of the OCT courses, inputting grades in to the Arc Jacksonville’s health records system, ensuring the UNF faculty are aware of the needs of our students, adjusting syllabi as needed, and coordination of any accommodations for testing.
  • Coordinates with AmeriCorps members to develop meaningful and fun sessions for the students.
  • Actively investigates and implements innovative strategies for OCT students to obtain experiential transitional services in an inclusive environment
  • Implements the recruitment of UNF students to become mentors and tutors for OCT students, as well as develops and implements creative ways to reduce the attrition of such volunteers.
  • Ensures the UNF faculty is aware of the needs of their OCT students, and maintains continual contact with the professors to ensure they are receiving support.
  • Along with the other staff at OCT, develops orientation for beginning of academic school year.
  • Assists with any one-on-one sessions with students and maintains progress notes on students to appraise performance, identifies transitional areas that require further development and training, and assures satisfaction with transitional services.
  • Secures all course textbooks.
  • Assists in the development of the OCT courses and fills in for educator if needed.
  • Serves as on-site supervisor for AmeriCorps members and works alongside the AmeriCorps Director in order to retain and train AmeriCorps.
  • Represents, recruits, and discusses the OCT program with potential students at various forums such as open houses, transition fairs, local public schools, and other open forums.
  • Assists with scheduling tours upon request and meets with families to discuss OCT program.
  • Enters the student grades in to the system and prepares report cards.
  • Assists the Student Life and Residential Coordinator in the operation and management of the LIFE Experience Program.
  • Assists and supports the residential program regarding students, staff, and AmeriCorps members.
  • Engages in cross training of all program positions to ensure effective ability to assume roles.
  • Becomes an Arc-approved vehicle driver, and ensures all vehicle policies and procedures are followed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Knowledge of behavioral modification and counseling principles preferred, experience in working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; positive interpersonal skills; professional appearance; high energy; effectively multi-task work assignments; proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Word and Adobe software; organized.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and services; knowledge of how to effectively address holistic transition needs and goals
  • Florida driver’s license and good driving record; automobile liability insurance as required by Florida statute.

Salary: $40,000 to $50,000 based on experience and qualifications
