Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response is Hiring a Finance Director Near Baton Rouge, LA

Mission Statement: The mission of Sexual Trauma Awareness & Response® (STAR®) is to support survivors of sexual trauma, improve systems response, and create social change to end sexual violence.

Position Summary: The Finance Director is responsible for maintaining all aspects of STAR's financial and accounting functions and operations. The Finance Director is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing financial transactions, and implementing sound administrative, financial, and cash management practices. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining fiscal operations to support STAR's mission. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, strategic thinking, and the ability to carry out financial and accounting regulatory compliance practices and procedures.

Classification: 40 hours/week (Full-time/Exempt)

Reports to: CEO

Supervises: Interns, as requested

Salary: Base pay range is $70,000-$80,000; additional compensation will depend on education, knowledge, and experience.

Position Duties

The primary duties of this position are to:

  • Financial Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records using Quickbooks Online.
    • Record and classify financial transactions, including income, expenses, and other financial activities in accordance with accounting principles and nonprofit regulations.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Process invoices, payments, and receipts;
    • Manage accounts payable and receivable by accurately recording and tracking transactions based according to grants and funders;
    • Prepare checks and ACH transactions, verify payment accuracy, and maintain vendor relationships;
  • Payroll:
    • Using a third-party automated service, process new employee paperwork, execute payroll, and provide benefits administration as needed;
  • Budget Management:
    • Assist in the development and monitoring of STAR's organizational budget;
    • Track income and expenses against organizational, branch, and grant budgets;
    • Provide regular reports to the leadership team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Financial Reporting:
    • Prepare monthly financial reports, such as income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Generate financial reports on a regular basis for internal analysis and external reporting requirements.
  • Grant Financial Management
    • Ensure compliance with grant requirements by accurately tracking and documenting expenditures, preparing financial reports, and providing supporting documentation as needed.
    • Ensure all grant financial reports are compiled and submitted to funders, including, but not limited to:
      • Office on Victims of Crime Funding
        • Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)
        • Victims of Crime Act Funding (VOCA)
          • Capital District Law Enforcement Planning Council-District 5
          • Metropolitan
          • Orleans
          • Red River Delta
      • Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Funding
          • Sexual Assault Services Program (SASP) Funding
          • Services, Training, Officers, Prosecutors (STOP) Funding
          • Improving Criminal Justice Response (ICJR)
          • Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV)
          • Rape Prevention and Education (RPE)
  • Donor Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of donor contributions and pledges;
    • Communicate pertinent information to development staff to support the generation of acknowledgements and receipts for donations;
    • Assist with donor reporting and communication as required.
  • Audit and Compliance:
    • Collaborate with auditors during annual audits and other financial reviews;
    • Provide necessary documentation and support to ensure nonprofit regulations and accounting standards compliance.
  • 1099 Form Generation:
    • Prepare and generate 1099 forms for contractors accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to IRS guidelines and regulations.
  • Financial Policies and Procedures:
    • As needed, help develop and maintain financial policies and procedures that promote sound financial management practices and internal controls.
  • Other Leadership Activities:
    • Collaborating with leadership to ensure program staff have the supplies, equipment, and technology needed to perform their work;
    • Review and approve survivor financial assistance applications;
    • Participate in strategic planning and monitoring as needed;
    • Attend leadership team meetings; work collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure success of all branches and programs;
    • Ensure positive work culture by modeling STAR's core values at all times;
    • Attend Board of Director meetings as requested.

Qualifications for this Position

The following are the minimum requirements for this position.

  • Minimum of three years experience in bookkeeping or accounting within a nonprofit organization;
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or accounting preferred;
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online and Excel;
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, regulations, and compliance requirements;
  • Experience reporting on federal grants is preferred;
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in financial record keeping;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively

  • You have completed, or will complete in the first year of employment, a mandatory 40 hours of sexual violence training; plus 20 hours of continuing education/training annually.
  • You have a valid driver's license and a working, insured vehicle at the time of appointment.
