Crisis Stabilization Supervisor

Reports to Safe Haven Manager

OUR MISSION
Porchlight strives to address homelessness in Dane County by providing shelter, housing, supportive
services, and a sense of community in ways that empower residents and program participants to
positively shape their lives.

generous support of community members and the endless dedication of our staff and volunteers.

SUMMARY OF PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Crisis Stabilization Supervisor provides on-site supervision of the Crisis Stabilization program, as well as direct provision of Crisis Stabilization services and case management to Safe Haven residents and guests. The Crisis Stabilization Supervisor's primary role is to assist individuals who are at risk of self-harm, harm to others, or psychiatric hospitalization due to mental health and/or substance use issues. The Crisis Stabilization Supervisor offers support and refers these individuals to a wide variety of community services, including mental health and recovery services.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

  1. Engages with Safe Haven guests, residents, and staff daily to identify and assess individuals in crisis resulting from mental health symptoms or substance use. Establishes program eligibility, enrolls guests as appropriate, and provides Crisis Stabilization services to these individuals.
  2. Builds trusting relationships with Crisis Stabilization clients and encourages them to engage in Safe Haven services. Utilizes active listening skills and develops rapport with guests based on mutual respect.
  3. Completes Crisis Stabilization Response Plans that meet Medicaid guidelines. Documents individuals' need for Crisis Stabilization services, their recovery goals, and the services Safe Haven will provide to aid in their recovery. Updates plans monthly to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  4. Counsels individuals in crisis on how to make use of the mental health, housing, and social services available in the community. Researches services available and refers guests to appropriate services. Communicates with other agencies regarding referrals.
  5. Provides empathy and emotional support to clients experiencing distress. Monitors symptoms and develops safety plans as necessary. Documents all interactions and observations in client progress notes.
  6. Provides psychosocial education and supports individuals in developing skills to manage mental illness, socialize with others, and decrease reliance on professional supports. Assists guests in achieving goals.
  7. Enforces all Safe Haven policies, procedures, and rules. Monitors the behavior of shelter guests and takes steps to stop undesirable behaviors. De-escalates individuals who are displaying aggressive or self-harming behaviors. Assists guests and residents in resolving conflicts.
  8. Contacts law enforcement and/or emergency crisis stabilization units when necessary to ensure the safety of Safe Haven residents, guests, and staff. Reports incidents accurately and objectively.
  9. Completes thorough and accurate documentation of all Crisis Stabilization services provided. Enters and submits billing to Medicaid using the County billing portal.
  10. Supervises the Crisis Stabilization program at Safe Haven. Reviews the annual budget and informs the Manager and staff of monthly billing targets. Monitors the services provided by all staff and provides regular status reports to the Manager to ensure that staff receive the supervision and support needed to ensure that quality Crisis Stabilization services are provided, billing targets are met, required documentation is completed properly, and training requirements are met. Collaborates with the Safe Haven Manager to ensure all required reporting for the Crisis Stabilization program is completed.
  11. Attends weekly Safe Haven staff meetings, including facilitating at least one hour of weekly supervision with Porchlight's clinical supervisor. Collaborates with and supports Safe Haven staff in serving guests and residents in crisis.
  12. Assists the Safe Haven Manager in identifying training opportunities for staff providing Crisis Stabilization services.
  13. Provides short-term office coverage for the Safe Haven Shelter Case Managers or Manager, as needed, and is available on call via cell phone during business hours for staff, residents and guests.
  14. Assists guests in filling out forms and applications for housing, employment, and other services.
  15. Reads Safe Haven staff documents each shift, including any logs, incident reports, and client notes. Contributes when necessary.
  16. Performs other duties and takes on other responsibilities as requested by the Safe Haven Manager, Assistant Director of Emergency Services, or Director of Emergency Services.

Recordkeeping & Reporting

  1. Records individual service minutes and client notes on a daily basis. Collects all other data necessary to complete statistical reports and meet funding requirements.
  2. Completes or contributes to County reports as requested. Submits all reports in a timely manner.
  3. Notifies proper agencies of such issues as suicidal/homicidal ideation, significant changes in behavior indicating instability, criminal activity, and probation/parole violations as appropriate.
  4. Completes incident reports by the end of the shifts during which they occur. Reports critical incidents immediately to the Safe Haven Manager and/or Director of Housing.

Personal Development

  1. Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.
  2. Maintains professional behavior and boundaries at all times in relationships with residents, shelter guests, staff, and community agencies.
  3. Formulates individual development goals and monitors progress towards those goals.
  4. Meets individually on a quarterly basis with the Safe Haven Manager to discuss progress toward goals.
  5. Participates in trainings.
  6. Stays abreast of current issues, philosophies, and practices that impact those who are marginalized and affected by poverty.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  1. Works in collaboration with program and all other agency staff to facilitate a team environment.
  2. Demonstrates and models effective communication skills in building relationships with all clients and employees.
  3. Creates good working relationships with other service providers.
  4. Participates in the development and implementation of Porchlight's strategic plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or closely related field required. Masters desired.
  2. Experience working in a nonprofit social service agency.
  3. Genuine desire to work with a socially disadvantaged and multi-ethnic population, including individuals experiencing homeless and those with low incomes. Sincere respect for disadvantaged individuals.
  4. Ability to motivate and obtain willing cooperation from others.
  5. Team orientation with respect for others. High ethical standards.
  6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to adapt to new technology quickly.
