Job Responsibilities

Bartenders have a very important role at Paper Plane. The majority of whether our guests’ experience is positive or negative is determined by the bartender. It is the bartender’s primary responsibility to utilize the Paper Plane service strategies to deliver a top notch service experience to our guests. Guests may come for the food and drink, but we know we have accomplished our mission if they come back for the team and the service.

Principal Duties

• Is responsible for main guests’ interaction and ensuring our guests leave feeling like family and not strangers.
• Needs to have an extreme attention to detail in a fast paced environment that requires intricate multi-tasking at every level.
• Ability to put the guest first and maintain a high level of awareness at all times.
• Has a thorough understanding of drink assembly procedures and is fundamentally sound in executing a number of different cocktail making techniques (shaking, stirring, straining, etc.)
• Is an expert on all menu items and is able to guide guests experience through a deeper understanding of all menu items. This includes but is not limited to understanding flavor profiles of the cocktails, being able to describe individual ingredients/spirits of each cocktail, knowing dietary restrictions on all food items, in depth knowledge of food ingredient make-up and flavor profiles, etc. etc.
• Is able to thrive under extreme pressure and is able to communicate and work alongside fellow teammates in high stress situations.
• Understands the importance of “knowing your craft” and possesses a strong knowledge on a variety of spirits (origin, production methods, legal requirements, tasting notes, etc.), cocktail recipes of all kinds with an understanding of various flavor profiles, Paper Plane service standards and how to execute at the highest standards at all times, understanding of the Paper Plane facility and knowing locations of all items pertaining to bartender position, etc.
• Truly embraces the notion that LEARNING NEVER STOPS in this industry, and despite one’s knowledge, remembers to always have humility.
• Understands the importance of a clean and organized bar and maintains bar cleanliness and organization at all times, no exceptions, no cut corners!
• Possesses a strong ability to communicate with others and is able to tailor communication to his/her audience.
• Ability to anticipate guests’ needs and always stays a step ahead of the game.
• Treats guests’ and fellow co-workers day in and day out the way he/she would want to be treated.

Certification Required

ServSafe Certificate, eFoodHandlers Card, or equivalent, BarSmarts “Staff Certified” Online Certification, and L.E.A.D. or TIPS Certification
