Director of Finance and Administration 

Company Overview: The Berkshire Eagle is a multimedia company located in Pittsfield, Massachusetts with additional brands including the Shopper’s Guide, The B Magazine, Talon Media, berkshiresweek.com and the Berkshire Business Journal. Revenue divisions include subscriptions, print/digital advertising, commercial printing and shared services. We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance and Administration to join our team and lead our financial and administrative functions.

Position Overview: As the Director of Finance and Administration, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our financial operations, administrative functions and leading the accounting department. Reporting directly to the Chief Revenue Officer with a dotted line to the Publisher, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, finance, and partner with human resources to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the organization. The salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
  • Oversee all financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Evaluate new technology and business partners to streamline processes and improve efficiencies. 
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and optimize financial performance.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance and support to senior management to inform decision-making and drive business growth and act as a trusted partner.
  • Collaborate closely with every department in the company throughout the budgeting process, procurement of materials, capital expenditures, etc.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve financial and administrative processes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Proven experience in a senior financial management role, with responsibility for accounting and human resources/general administration functions.
  • Strong knowledge of financial principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working in media and/or manufacturing is a plus.
