DESCRIPTION:

The selected Certified Supervision Officer (CSO) will be responsible for the maintenance of the case file and the effective supervision of all offenders placed on this grant-funded caseload as either an initial condition of probation or a subsequent amended order. This intensive caseload is targeted for high risk/high needs sex offenders placed on community supervision by the Courts of Johnson and Somervell Counties, as well as those sex offenders transferred in from other jurisdictions. The CSO will be responsible for monitoring the offender's attendance, participation, and progress in the sex offender counseling and programming. They will also monitor the offender's compliance with all sex offender registration requirements, as well as all other conditions of community supervision and be responsible for making all necessary referrals. The CSO will supervise in accordance with TDCJ-CJAD Standards 163.38, Sex Offender supervision and contacts will be commensurate with the TDCJ-CJAD Special Grant Conditions for Sex Offender Caseloads. The CSO will report program and other community supervision violations to the Court in accordance with departmental policy. Extensive field work and collateral contacts with treatment providers, family, and offender is required, which could involve some night and weekend work to effectively supervise and monitor this high risk/high needs caseload.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Meet with probationers in office or at probationers' residence and/or work according to established schedules, or more often as necessary. Takes weekly/monthly report, collects court ordered fees, obtains urine samples from probationers for drug-use analysis and enforces the conditions of probation. Conducts risk and needs assessments and develops supervision plans based on criminogenic factors and applies risk reduction strategies. Utilizes computerized data entry equipment and various word processing programs and maintains files to document all contacts with probationers. Attends necessary court proceedings, maintains relationship with the court, testifies as needed, prepares violation reports and recommends

modifications. Reviews case records to determine compliance with State standards, grant conditions and departmental policies and procedures. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of a bachelor's degree conferred by an institution of higher education accredited by an accrediting organization recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The preferred degree would be in criminal justice, criminology, social work, psychology, sociology, rehabilitative studies or a related field. Must have at least four years or community corrections experience or at least one year of prior experience in supervising sex offender cases. In absence of this experience, the selected officer must have some special skills, such as being fluent in a language other than English, and at least two years of casework experience. The officer must be certified as a community supervision officer and certified to administer the TRAS.

Applicants cannot be employed as a peace officer or serve as a reserved peace officer. Must become certified as community supervision officer within one year after hire.

Bilingual in English / Spanish desired but not required.

SALARY:

$47,000 to negotiable per year based on experience plus benefit package.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver License and insurance. Background investigation of prospective employees will be conducted.
