Development Manager (Grants & Annual Campaign)

(Full-Time, Columbia, SC)

The Development Manager is primarily responsible for the generation of all Fund Development content, including the Annual Report, Appeals, web pages, and grant writing. In conjunction with the membership and program teams, grant writing responsibilities include research, writing, production, delivery, follow-up, evaluation and measurement functions, targeting foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other institutional donors and prospects to secure funding for GSSC-MM programs and operations.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Manager will be responsible for communications and collateral to consistently articulate GSSC-MM fundraising efforts and will be responsible for grant research, writing, and reporting. This position develops, implements and manages strategic plans to secure funding from local, regional, and national corporations and foundations as well as government sources. Identifies prospective funding sources and ensures stewardship of current partnerships. Researches, writes and manages all aspects of grant application processes. Works to ensure effective proposal content and meaningful grant reporting. Serves as Project Manager for all grants, sponsorships and initiatives to GSSC-MM. Oversees the inter-departmental project team approach of United Way stewardship and funding which includes consistent messaging, impact, and plan for community-based support.

Objectives/Qualifications

  • Responsible for proposal development for new and recurring grants and contracts, donor cultivation and stewardship, grant research and other fundraising related activities.
  • Responsible for leading the staff phase of Friends of Girl Scouting Annual Campaign, Midlands Gives, Giving Tuesday and other prospect/donor lead generation as assigned.
  • Research new donor prospects and identify viable foundation, corporation, government and other institutional prospects to fund the organization’s programs.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, proposals, grant applications and funder reports, ensuring that all data is completed accurately and on time.
  • Research audience, needed facts, background information and other required data for proposal development.
  • Edit and proofread texts of grant proposals and applications for adherence to RFP requirements.
  • Monitor completed grant proposals and administration process to ensure timely application submission.
  • Develop and maintain tracking and reporting system for grant awards, submittals and prospects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred or 3-5 years of successful experience of grant writing.
  • Minimum three years of grant proposal writing and research experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (excellent critical and creative writing skills).
  • Excellent writing skills to draft funding proposals in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments/responsibilities.

  • Ability to develop strategic communications content.
  • Strong project management skills and deadline tracking.
  • Experience with United Way stewardship and funding processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evening and weekends. Ability to travel as job requires.
  • Demonstrated ability and proficiency to perform data entry with extreme accuracy.
  • Upon hire, must hold personal membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  • Must have personal transportation and the ability to drive; possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license, maintain personal auto insurance meeting council insurance company’s requirement for coverage, and submit to drug test and background search.
