Job description
Under the direction of the Shelter Program Manager, supervise staff and oversee daily operations and implementation of programs and services within the shelter/facility. Provide advocacy oversight to ensure effective services are provided to residents. Oversee client case management, timely completion of records, and upkeep of client files. Responsible for program data integrity in both agency databases and client files for programs related to funding. Ensure the safety, well-being and rights of shelter residents at all times. Supervise interns and volunteers as needed. Job Title: Shelter Coordinator
This Position Reports To: Program Manager
Position Status: Exempt
Work Hours: Full-time; minimum 40 hours per week. Sunday, Monday, nights and weekends may be required
Duties & Responsibilities
· Manage staff in daily operational activities.
· Advocate for the mission of the organization and upholds the agency’s values.
· Responsible for implementing and enforcing all shelter guidelines/policies/procedures for all guests.
· Ensure guests are complying with program guidelines and procedures.
· Ensure guests are supplied with necessary items (food, clothing, toiletries etc.).
· Maintain guest records to include data entry, and case management records (e.g., HMIS).
· Audit client files and database on a monthly basis.
· Review policies and procedures with guests at time of entrance.
· Assess guest needs and offer assistance when needed.
· Maintain necessary supplies; do regular inventory and order supplies as needed.
· Process invoices in a timely manner to ensure payment.
· Promote strength-based best practices, that are guest (resident)-centered, and utilize reflective listening, motivational interviewing, and strength-based learning, to assist in successful service delivery.
· Monitor guest cleaning schedules and laundry.
· Perform daily room checks.
· Prepare intake packages.
· Maintains order and assist in keeping all assigned areas clean and free of spills, trash and safety hazards.
· Ensure all donations are put away on shift.
· Provide consistent coverage for assigned shifts, working within a team and independently to complete all shift duties.
· Help guests resolve any issues that may arise.
· Attend all staff meetings and participate in activities designated by the Program Manager.
· Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or Executive Director.
Qualifications
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in Human Services with one or more of the following: individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, substance abuse or those living in poverty.
· Bilingual/Bicultural (Spanish) preferred.
· Demonstrated dedication to work effectively with underserved, at-risk, and vulnerable populations.
· Knowledge of housing and navigation services available in Monterey County.
· Team player with leadership skills; ability and desire to interact with people at all levels.
· Organized, attention to detail, results oriented.
· Ability to work effectively with community partners.
· Ability to pass criminal background check.
· Able to meet Community Homeless Solutions Working Conditions (see below).
· Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office as well as knowledge of the HMIS client database.
· Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
· Must be prompt and dependable.
· Exceptional verbal, written, & presentation skills.
· Must be able to respond to emergency situations effectively.

ENVIRONMENT
Approximately 80% of the time performing job duties is spent indoors in a standard office.
Approximately 20% of the time performing outreach duties as assigned by the program manager in collaboration with the client.
Employee works near office equipment and may occasionally be exposed to the risk of electric shock. Much of the work is performed on a computer but requires proficiency with written notes and time management.
Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The temperature of the work environment is moderate and ranges from 65 ~ 80 degrees.
