Operations Technician
The Central Mississippi Planning & Development District (CMPDD) has been promoting regional excellence since 1968. Our purpose is to assist with creative regional solutions to relevant and emerging issues for our participating governments.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Classification: Non-Exempt

Department:Planning & Management

Reports to: Director of Planning & Management Division

Summary/Objective
The CMPDD Operations Technician is responsible for assisting staff in all departments with a variety of activities indoors and outdoors, in the office and away from the offices. So activities require manual labor while others are learned skills. The Operations Technician may work alone without close supervision and at times work closely with others on special projects. A valid Driver's License is mandatory for this position.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Assists Transportation Technician and/or other Planning staff with collection of field data for traffic counts, pavement management, land use, and other planning activities.
  • Retrieves and delivers mail daily between post office, Main Office, and Lakeland Office.
  • Conducts occasional and routine building maintenance and cleanup of CMPDD buildings.
  • Monitors and assists with CMPDD vehicle maintenance and service needs.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this position, the employee will work in both an office environment as well as outdoors. The employee may be required to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time and should be comfortable working and driving in various weather conditions year-round.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently lifts and moves up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, disance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is preferred, with at least three (3) years of full-time paid experience in a related field.
Any combination of education, training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds on occasion.
  • Ability to use various hand and power tools such as sledgehammer, dolly, mallet, drill, etc., as needed.
  • Knowledge in mechanical, electrical, automotive, construction, and office technology.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi driver's license.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and initiative to work alone with limited supervision.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, database programs, and standard office equipment.

Other Duties

  • Assists Graphic Designer with large publications as needed.
  • Runs various errands, delivers and retrieves plans, documents, etc. as requested by CMPDD personnel.
  • Assist CMPDD staff as needed for room set-up, moving boxes, furniture, and other similar duties.
  • Serves as handyman for day-to-day mechanical, technical, automotive, groundskeeping, and general needs of property and personnel.
