The Position
This non-represented, non-exempt working supervisory position reports to the Public Works Director and supervises personnel assigned to the utility crews engaged in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water, wastewater, storm water, and sanitary systems. Position also performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance work, and operates a variety of equipment.

Education & Experience
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Two (2) years of post-secondary education in Engineering, Construction, Business or Public Administration, or a related field. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Two (2) years of supervisory experience in a municipal government setting. Preference will be given for experience in a municipal government setting; consideration will also be given for serving in a lead-worker capacity.
Five (5) years of experience relating to the construction, repair and maintenance of municipal infrastructure, including water service and wastewater, storm water and sanitary systems for the City including the operation of related maintenance equipment.
A capable leader with tested and proven supervisory skills is needed, and any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates that ability with the knowledge, and skills, necessary to perform the essential job duties will be considered.
Requirements
Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record by time of hire. Class B CDL with a tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain one within sixty (60) days of hire is required; Class A preferred.
Completion of Public Agency Work Zone Traffic Control training, receipt of a Flagger Certification card and First Aid/CPR Certification.
While professional certification at time of hire is required, acceptable options are listed below:
National Park & Recreation Association as a Certified Park & Recreation Professional; Facilities Maintenance Certification equal to that of Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI); Certification as Water Distribution System Operator or Wastewater Collections System Operator – City currently at Level 2.
Must successfully pass a background check and have the ability to obtain City security (CJIS) clearance for unescorted access to certain City facilities.
After (regular) hours work often required as this position is considered “First Response” essential personnel which is required to report to work for scheduled shifts, as well as any overtime or extra hours required. Participation in the Public Works on-call system if necessary.
