Centro Cultural of Washington County is Hiring a Ballet Folklorico Dance Instructor Near Cornelius, OR

Position: Ballet Folklorico Dance Instructor

Reports to: Education Director & Youth Development Program Coordinator

Direct Reports: None

Dates/Hours: 6 hrs/week, 4:30pm - 6:30pm, 2 classes/week 5pm-6pm

Admin and performance time as needed

FLSA Status: Independent Contractor

Compensation: $30/hr

Founded in 1972 by migrant farmworkers, Centro Cultural del Condado de Washington (Centro) is a community institution for gathering, culture and community building. Today Centro serves as a hub for: arts and cultural events; economic empowerment for families; for community advocacy; supportive housing and stabilization; comprehensive food security services; public health initiatives; senior health and wellness; and year-round K-12 STEAM pathways. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Centro Cultural is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Ballet Folklorico Instructor who will create a vibrant and inclusive learning environment for children. The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality instruction that aligns with Centro Cultural's mission and goals.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach and instruct Ballet Folklorico to children in K-5th grade, fostering a safe, enjoyable, and positive atmosphere that promotes student wellness and engagement.
  • Prepare students for 3-4 dance performances annually at Centro community events, such as Dia de los niños, El Grito, and Dia de los Muertos.
  • Participate in bi-weekly check-ins and collaborate on curriculum planning with the Centro Youth Development Team.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and supervisors.
  • Learn and implement new dances, ensuring alignment with program goals and standards.
  • Provide outstanding service to members by cultivating effective relationships and facilitating connections within the Centro Cultural community.
  • Adhere to Centro policies and procedures, respond to emergency situations, and fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Experience teaching Ballet Folklorico to children or youth.
  • Proficiency in Mexican folk dance styles and techniques.
  • Strong dance skills and performance ability.
  • Understanding of the history and cultural significance of Mexican folk dance.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive lesson plans and curricula that meet program objectives.
  • Proficient in effective classroom management techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, families, and program staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Requirements

  • Complete Background Check
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends to meet deadlines and to attend events
  • Possess current driver’s license and auto insurance coverage
  • Ability to travel out of town to attend workshops or trainings

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is approximately 70% in an office environment and 30% in community locations. Working conditions are standard for an office environment. Community locations may include events requiring interacting with a large number of people. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will:

  • Engage in regular communication in person as well as through electronic means.
  • Routinely use computer laptops, tablets, desk phones, photocopiers and monitors, including digital screens
  • Occasionally move up to 20 pounds.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 6 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Experience:

  • Teaching K-5th grade: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Mexican folk dance styles and techniques: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Ballet Folklorico dance: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Lesson planning: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Classroom management: 1 year (Preferred)
