Job Description: This is an on-property leadership position responsible for directing all hotel staff and managing the daily operations of a 105-room hotel and 150-slip marina. Experience in hotel operations and departmental management is essential. This position is responsible for increasing hotel occupancy, maximizing hotel revenue and controlling expenses while overseeing the Front Desk; Hotel Food & Beverage department including hotel restaurant, lounge and banquet catering. Sales, Accounting, Housekeeping, Engineering, and Security departments also report to the General Manager. All hotel hospitality and service standards, along with policies and procedures, must be upheld at all times. This is a hands-on leadership role. The General Manager reports directly to hotel owners. The hotel is looking to fill this position in the Spring, upon finding the ideal candidate.
Summary: Oversees all aspects of property management in accordance with Company objectives, including maximization of financial performance, guest satisfaction and first class staff development. Responsible for the hiring, training and discipline of all hotel and marina staff.
Qualifications: As the General Manager, you will be accountable for budgeting and financial management and will plan, organize and direct all hotel and marina services including Front Office, reservations, food and beverage operations, housekeeping, engineering, accounting and marina. A minimum of three (3) years experience as a General Manager in a full-service, upscale hotel is required. Experience with revenue management and OTA reservations is essential. Experience in hotel operations and guest service is required. Knowledge of StayNTouch property management system and ALOHA restaurant POS is preferred, as well as prior food and beverage experience. Must possess outstanding organizational and writing skills, be fluent in English, and be able to generate hotel operating reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepare annual income and expense reports
2. Solicit annual bids for property liability and workers' compensation insurance renewals
3. Develop, introduce and enforce all established policies and procedures in accordance with Company standards
4. Maintain an operating environment that ensures consistent excellent guest satisfaction, initiating any corrective actions as needed
5. Establish and maintain a proactive human resource function to ensure employee motivation, training and development, wage and benefits administration, and compliance with established labor regulations
6. Execute marketing, sales and operational activities, producing results that meet or exceed budgeted goals
7. Ensure good safety practices of employees and guests through maintenance of proper emergency and security procedures, adhering to OSHA laws
8. Review and approve or deny departmental requisitions utilizing established purchase order system for timely payment of invoices
9. Review bank statements and financial reports for management that clearly explain operational effectiveness, trends and variances per established accounting audit
10. Inspect public areas, property exterior, and guestrooms daily for proper cleaning and upkeep
11. Maintain County Health Department inspection of restaurant, pool and spa in good standing to regulations
12. Understand the government regulations affecting hotel's operations, ensuring hotel is operated in compliance with all applicable laws, ordinances, regulations and requirements of any federal, state or municipal authority
13. Implement and maintain effective open-door communication system that crosses departmental lines in order to reach all employees
14. Maintain an appropriate level of community public affairs involvement
15. Maintain product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints, initiating corrective action as needed
16. Deal with the general public, customers, guests, employees and officials with courtesy and tact
17. Review hotel's rates and availability daily compared to Yield System report to ensure proper positioning
18. Hold weekly Department Head Staff meetings to review upcoming week's activities, scheduling and updates. Hold individual department meetings as necessary to review any concerns
19. Hold monthly meetings with hotel ownership as per prepared agenda, reviewing any areas of concern
20. Maintain all Accounts Receivable in good order not to exceed 90 days past due
21. Maintain rates and occupancy utilizing the STAR report for optimization and fair market share within comp set
22. Perform other duties as assigned by ownership
