The Dental Assistant is hired in conjunction with the Delta Dental Foundation of Minnesota grant. The purpose of the grant is to create a sustainable model to increase the oral health of older adults that live within our communities, whether long or short term. Educating residents, families, and employees about the importance of oral care in their daily lives. In this unique practice setting, dental assistants work in conjunction with a dental hygienist through collaborative practice with an off-site dentist, utilizing state of the art portable equipment and technology to provide oral health services to our residents where they live.

Schedule:

Flexible hours, with the ability to set your own schedule based on needs of each community.

Responsibilities:

• The provision of oral health and assisting services, within the scope of practice, in long term, assisted living and independent care facilities;
• Work according to Knute Nelson Walker Methodist’s policies and procedures and as directed by dental hygienist, program director, and collaborating dentist;
• Assist in identification of a Dental Provider for each resident if agreed or responsible party based on needs and preferences;
• Assist with maintaining statistics and benchmarking for this grant and help to market and share information with funders and partners in the healthcare industry.
• Provide assistance with oral hygiene care provided by nursing, therapy and other staff;
• Assist in development and training materials for ancillary staff via formal in-service education programs and individualized instruction as needed; and
• Communicate effectively about oral hygiene care with residents, families, responsible parties and other health professionals involved in the resident’s care.

Qualifications:

• Certified and licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota
• At least three years of general clinical dental assisting experience
• Knowledge of, or familiarity with long term care system including federal and state nursing home regulations.
