Responsibilities
  • Employ and enhance established work systems to achieve lasting improvements in areas such as safety, environmental impact, workforce satisfaction, quality, costs, and overall performance.
  • Prioritize safety by fostering a secure workplace and leading initiatives that aim for continuous improvement in safety goals each year.
  • Guarantee the smooth operation of departmental machinery.
  • Formulate and execute quality assurance strategies to meet customer standards. - Mentor and develop leadership skills through effective leadership and accountability practices.
  • Work closely with management at all levels to set production and quality standards, devise budgets and cost controls, and ensure long-term viability.
  • Oversee production operations and set priorities that align with efficiency and cost considerations.
  • Prepare and manage area budgets, ensuring costs stay within set limits and taking responsibility for the financial outcomes of the area.
  • Drive improvement plans that enhance customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, cost reduction, and reliability across production areas.
  • Uphold strict safety protocols and actively address potential safety hazards.
  • Collaborate with various departments to ensure quality standards are met and operations run smoothly.
  • Assess capital requirements and manage capital improvement projects in the area.
  • Contribute to capital project discussions and strategic improvement initiatives across the mill.
  • Communicate company strategies, goals, and projects effectively to both mill and area leaders.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects within your area of responsibility.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule necessary maintenance work and outages, supporting long-term equipment sustainability.
  • Develop strategic initiatives to boost overall efficiency in your area.
  • Analyze production, quality, and operational reports to identify and address non-conformities and issues.
  • Formulate strategies for operational efficiency, standard procedures, and methods to eliminate production bottlenecks and enhance product quality.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with various departments to foster effective collaboration.
Requirements Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Paper Science, or a related field with at least five years of experience in the paper industry, including five years in leadership roles. Alternatively, over ten years of direct experience in paper production with at least five years in supervisory positions.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills, specifically related to the paper production process.
  • Ability to set and achieve short-term and long-term strategic goals.
  • Experience in mentoring and leading teams by example.
  • Capacity to initiate and manage change for continuous performance improvement.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to implement necessary changes based on business needs.
  • In-depth knowledge of integrated mill operations.
  • Proficiency in managing different levels of an operational area and engaging with various organizational levels.
  • Experience with reliability and continuous improvement methods.
  • Preferred: Experience in a unionized setting and familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kepner Tregoe, or similar analytical tools.
