Xtreme Express LLC is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near West Mifflin, PA

A transport manager directs operations for transportation, hauling and logistics.

Their duties include coordinating assets throughout an operational area,

planning operations and managing the overhead and personnel requirements for

a company.

They are also responsible for ensuring company-wide compliance with the

various legal obligations of interstate and intrastate shipping.

Job Description

Transport managers lead a team of drivers, loaders, dispatchers, and

maintenance personnel to ensure the smooth operation of a fleet of trucks.

Communicating with upper management and state regulators, they regularly

inspect vehicles and cargo loads for safety and compliance with applicable local

laws.

Most transport managers also have at least some supervisory duties over one

or more employees/s. They are routinely expected to handle employee issues

involving job duties, scheduling, and discipline.

Recommended Skills and Qualifications

Successful transport managers should have a wide variety of skills and

qualifications. Some of the more common traits of a person in this position are:

  • Solid math skills adequate for computing load tolerance and mileage estimates
  • In-depth knowledge of industry-standard methods, costs, and best practices for hauling freight
  • Hazardous materials training, with or without formal certification
  • Leadership and the ability to positively motivate a team of drivers, mechanics, and laborers
  • A working understanding of vehicle components, loading equipment and computer.

Because transport managers are supervisor-level employees, most transport

companies prefer to hire candidates with extensive experience in shipping and

logistics.

As a rule, transport managers will have experience driving, loading and/or

maintaining fleet vehicles. Many will also have a background in logistics or

dispatching.

Transport managers frequently have multiple years of experience in the

industry, which may be as a driver, loader, or transportation manager at

another company.

Transport Manager Education and Training

Transport managers often have a bachelor’s degree in business, logistics,

supply chain management or a related field. This is not strictly necessary, and

many employers are willing to hire a high school graduate with sufficient

industry experience.

Many transport managers carry professional licensure, which may be granted by

several bodies, including Certified Logistics Associate (MSSC) Certified Supply

Chain Professional (ASTL), Certified Management Accountant (IMA) or Certified

Manager Certification (ICPM).

Job Duties (Includes but not Limited to)

1. Hiring Qualified Staff: Responsible for recruiting and selecting highly skilled

and suitable personnel to join the team.

2. Manage and Maintain Payroll: Oversee the payroll process, ensuring accurate

and timely payment to employees while maintaining financial records.

3. Scheduling Staff: Create and manage work schedules for the staff to ensure

adequate coverage and efficient operations.

4. Route Management: Coordinate the assignment of transportation tasks to

drivers and plan optimal routes for efficient deliveries.

5. Coaching Drivers: Provide guidance and training to drivers to improve their

performance and safety on the road.

6. Overseeing Drivers: Supervise and monitor the daily activities of drivers to

ensure adherence to company policies and performance standards.

7. Fleet Maintenance: Arrange and coordinate maintenance and repair schedules

for company vehicles and equipment with Safety and Fleet. Verify that all

necessary paperwork and documentation are present in each vehicle.

8. Invoicing: Prepare and send invoices to Supervisor for the transportation

services provided.

9. Ensuring Driver Compliance: Ensure that drivers adhere to all legal and safety

regulations, including licensing and hours-of-service rules.

10. Customer Satisfaction: Focus on meeting customer expectations and

maintaining high levels of service quality to ensure customer satisfaction.

11. Enforcing Disciplinary Programs: Implement disciplinary measures as needed

to address violations of company policies or safety protocols by drivers.

12. Communicate on route changes: Coordinate with team and Supervisor to

communicate and adjust routes as necessary.

13. Become a driver when necessary: Step in as a driver when staffing shortages

or emergencies require immediate action.

14. Maintain culture and morale: Foster a positive workplace culture and boost

employee morale through effective leadership and team-building activities.

15. Send daily reports: Generate and distribute daily reports summarizing key

operational metrics and performance indicators to management and

stakeholders.

Full-time position

Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 per year
