Exceptional Children’s Teacher for OCS (Occupational Course of Study) High School
Sign On Bonus $2,000

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal

Purpose: Under general supervision, provides special education services to students identified as disabled in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach high school OCS curriculum;
  • Help students maintain their OCS portfolios;
  • Adapt material from NCVPS as necessary to suit students' instructional needs;
  • Establish and maintain relationships with parents and other EC personnel.
  • All candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree and certification in Exceptional Children's education.

Qualities:

  • Experience teaching OCS;
  • Knowledge of high school testing and graduation requirements;
  • Understanding of how to create, implement, and review IEPs;
  • Familiarity with the ECATS system;
  • Strong data collection and analysis skills;
  • Ability to differentiate instruction;
  • Desire to create strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and their families.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with special needs
  • Knowledge of behavioral therapy techniques and strategies
  • Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with parents, colleagues, and support staff
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Proficiency in using learning technology and assistive devices for special education students
  • Passion for educating and supporting students with special needs

Minimum Qualifications or Standards required to perform essential job functions:

Physical Requirements: Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force as frequently or constantly as needed to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. This includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to parents, students, and staff.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow written and oral instructions. You must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.

Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate eyes and hands to use keyboard.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. You must be adaptable top performing under minimal to moderate levels of stress.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk, write and hear.

Assessment: Performance of this job will be assessed annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on assessment of administrative personnel.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year as established by the Board.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $35,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
