Radeas is Hiring a Part-Time LC-MS/MS Operator I Near Wake Forest, NC

SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for servicing laboratory instruments and equipment by performing preventive maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and managing related projects.

Essential Duties include but are not limited to:

Equipment maintenance & repair:

  • Performs and logs major and minor troubleshooting on LC-MS/MS instruments.
  • Makes solutions such as QCs, calibrators, buffers, and external standard stock solutions.
  • Runs and quantitates calibration curves.
  • Approves QCs daily.
  • Performs method validation on LC-MS/MS instruments.
  • Manages the method validation logs.
  • Manages the solutions within the lab freezer and refrigerator.
  • Set up, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Remains current on lab standard operating procedures.
  • Identifies and resolve quality control issues.
  • Follows all safety procedures and maintains safety equipment.
  • Assesses potential problems that may arise in performance of testing and initiates appropriate action, as may be required.
  • Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, and periodically assesses procedures and identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance.
  • Participates in regular in-service training and appropriate education on laboratory safety and testing procedures.
  • Performs, analyzes and documents all proficiency testing data produced by LC-MS/MS in the same manner as patient samples.
  • Participates in research and development projects.
  • Support training and development initiatives in the Department.

Performs data analysis as necessary (max of 75 reports analyzed and checked per day):

  • Captures patient results into report templates and checks templates, patient demographics, and results for errors and inconsistencies.
  • Monitors data collection, checking and ensuring data integrity to produce reports that both explain and summarize findings in ways that can be understood by lay and non-technical audiences.
  • Manipulates potentially hazardous human specimens/samples and analytic reagents in a safe and responsible manner within the laboratory setting.
  • Provides consultation regarding the appropriateness of testing ordered and the interpretation of test results.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (Reviewed and adjusted annually)

1. Machine downtime against standard

2. Completion of preventative maintenance against schedule

3. Projects completed against target deadlines

4. Safety standards met

5. Daily Quality controls against standards

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: biology, chemistry, toxicology, clinical chemistry, or a relatable life science.
  • Previous lab experience including review of analytical data and Quality Control; toxicology experience in a laboratory performing prescription drug monitoring or in a SAMHSA certified Laboratory is preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a part-time position, less than 30 hours per week
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand
  • Additional hours may be required from time to time to accommodate training.

Travel:

  • Limited Travel - Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of basic principles and practical applications of chemistry, biochemistry, toxicology, microbiology, molecular biology, and/or related laboratory specialties.
  • Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate written and verbal scientific and clinical information.
  • Good organizational, communication, strong computer database and laboratory or clinical specimen management skills.
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis and peer review to the capacity of at least 75 reports per day.
