Rhode Island Credit Union is Hiring a Bookkeeper Near Providence, RI

Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurate review and oversite of the daily branch work, proper entry classification and reconciliation of General Ledger accounts as assigned, assists in the preparation of reports and schedules, assists in the review of various internal controls and is responsible for the timely distribution of Board reports. The Bookkeeper also acts as backup for the Senior Accounting Clerk.

Duties:

- Reviews work form all branches and departments and entries created to the General Ledger for accuracy and proper classification to the General Ledger

- Ensures proper balancing procedures have been followed

- Summarizes and classifies daily online activity reports

- Prepares the daily Check Disbursements register as follows:

  • Ensures check disbursement totals are in proof
  • Accounts for check sequences and breaks and voided checks
  • Reconciles the daily cash deposit and locates and corrects any errors.
  • Submits non-imaged items to the clearing house.
  • Manages and reviews piggyback items for rescan.

- Prepares daily entries to the General Ledger as assigned

- Accurately reclassifies any errors in the accounting process

- Maintains teller over and short subsidiary ledger and reconciliation to the General Ledger

- Prepares weekly payroll entries and maintains subsidiary ledger

- Reconciles member withholdings and ensures timely and accurate reporting and submission to Federal and State agencies

- Utilizes the Accounts Payable system to enter and produce checks to pay approved invoices.

- Reconciles mail tapes to transaction activity and reports all differences.

- Performs weekly loan audits on a random sample:

  • Reviews all loan documents and disbursements
  • Reviews the approval process for adherence to policy and loan limits
  • Reviews offering rate
  • Confirms activity with member

- Prepares Board reports as needed or assigned and ensures accuracy

- Prepares the monthly Board Packages for mailing/portal upload:

  • Collates all reports.
  • Reviews for possible errors.
  • Copies and distributes/mails completed packets.

- Reviews incoming wire transfers and prepares for approval and posting. This includes account review, OFAC screening and updating wire transfer logs in accordance with BSA policy.

- Reviews outgoing wire transfers received for accuracy and completeness. This includes account review, OFAC screening and updating wire transfer logs in accordance with BSA policy.

- Performs various duties as assigned.

- Acts as backup to the Senior Accounting Clerk.

- Must maintain confidentiality of information and ensure proper destruction of confidential records.

21. Must follow all security policies and procedures as well as all established RICU policies and procedures.

- Maintains thorough product knowledge to cross-sell products and services and proactively engages in conversations with members to discover needs.

- Actively participates in all training, employee and member incentive programs, and any marketing and public relations efforts designed to increase business and improve image.

Skills:
The ideal candidate should possess the following skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of Fundamentals of Accounting course or related in-house accounting experience.
  • General knowledge of EXCEL spreadsheet preparation with basic formulas.
  • Excellent telephone communication and member service skills.
  • Professional and positive attitude.
  • Ability to read and learn written procedures and policies.
  • Perform transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain composure and professionalism while working with the public.
  • Operate standard office equipment to include, but not limited to, the items listed under Equipment Used.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Pass a background check.
