* Salary can vary depending upon education, experience, or qualifications. Though this position is unclassified, pay is equivalent to classified Pay Grade 27, Steps 6-12.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering services related to batterer intervention programming (BIP) to offenders primarily in Sedgwick and Reno Counties. Work will include conducting BIP groups and coordinating with other relevant KDOC staff to work with offenders in reducing their risk of future battering behavior.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering services related to batterer intervention programming (BIP) to offenders primarily in Sedgwick and Reno Counties. Work will include conducting BIP groups and coordinating with other relevant KDOC staff to work with offenders in reducing their risk of future battering behavior.
• Some evening or weekend hours are required to meet offender needs; flex scheduling is used when this is necessary.
• The incumbent in this position is the primary facilitator in delivering BIP groups and establishing related services.
• This position will broker additional services, by recruiting co-facilitators, training volunteers and staff in delivering group services, and working with volunteers, staff and offenders in establishing BIP services. This position will work closely with other Victim Services staff to coordinate ongoing assessment of risk/safety concerns and to provide information that allows for statutorily required victim notification. This position will work closely with the Parole Officers of the offenders in the BIP group, to ensure that group work is coordinated with supervision and case management; that any safety issues are identified; that progress is assessed; and that the Parole Officer is fully informed of the work and progress or lack of progress of the offender. This position will also work closely with Parole/Reentry/Victim Services staff to identify gaps in services related to domestic violence offenders, and to address those gaps, including coordinating services with community BIP Providers. This position will also build capacity and knowledge of Parole/Reentry staff in understanding DV, in working with offenders who are involved in BIP, and otherwise ensuring that effective practices and interventions are incorporated into supervision and case management related to DV. This position will also develop and maintain relationships with community agencies that service domestic violence victims as required to maintain certification.
• This position schedules, monitors, and is responsible for supporting all administrative aspects of BIP group services in Sedgwick and Reno Counties, including reviewing referrals, recruiting participants, screening and assessing for readiness, establishing groups; tracking participants; documenting offender contacts in Athena; reporting to victim services/parole/reentry staff on progress and ensuring available resources are fully utilized; scheduling groups, and monitoring them for quality assurance and fidelity; collaborating with parole/reentry staff to increase successful completions; involving Parole Officers, mentors, and others as appropriate in supporting progress; giving feedback to Parole Officers; and otherwise supporting the delivery of a full array of BIP services. Track data as directed for determining impact of BIP programming. Attend training and meetings as required.
• This position serves as a member of the OVS Restorative Justice team and is responsible for facilitating RJ programming throughout the department. This can include facilitating Victim Impact Classes, Victim/Offender Dialogue cases, or Apology Letter Bank activities (leading workshops, reviewing letters, working individually with residents, etc.).
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

One year of experience in planning, implementing and monitoring activities relevant to the agency’s programs. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Experience working with victims and offenders in a non-judgmental and confidential manner.

Basic computer skills are necessary to be able to use Outlook, Word and PowerPoint, and to navigate databases and track information.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Licensed, or able to be licensed, by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board Master’s degree with emphasis in criminal justice, social sciences, or behavioral sciences.
• Experience in public speaking and training of adults.
• Two years of experience working in the domestic violence field, either with victims or perpetrators.
• Experience working with offenders or other high-risk groups.
• Experience in case management.
• Creativity, flexibility, and a desire to grow/learn.
• Possesses:

• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to engage a difficult population
• Has the ability to:

• Have solid professional boundaries
• Work effectively/collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
• Work independently in a professional manner
• Boundary span between areas of operation

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
