Merchants Bonding is Hiring a Manager - Systems & Network Administrator Near Des Moines, IA

Job PurposeThe Manager - Senior Systems & Network Administrator is responsible for leading a team focused on internally managed systems and network infrastructure for Merchants Bonding Company. Additionally, responsibility for interfaces to hosted and third-party systems upon which Merchants operations depend and help desk operations and support. Working with the CISO, this position is also accountable for long-term infrastructure and disaster planning and testing, active involvement in compliance/regulatory/cyber security technology policy development and adherence focused on the internally managed IT systems and networks for Merchants Bonding.
Job ResponsibilitiesSystems and Network Administration
  • Supports server, network and desktop hardware, software and applications and telephone systems for the Company. Installs hardware, loads programs and prepares systems for users.
  • Ensures timely hardware and software upgrades, patches, enhancements and conversions to ensure optimal deployment of resources. Conducts routine maintenance as required.
  • Pairs with technology team members to proactively monitor and address any support issues as needed.
  • Serves as the lead with vendor support service groups and provides internal analysis and support to ensure proper escalation during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
  • Sets up, configures and supports internal and/or external networks. Develops and maintains all systems, applications, security and network configurations in conjunction with cyber security policies and procedures.
  • Implements and tests backup procedures and conducts regular recovery tests.
  • Working with the CISO, ensures the security of corporate data stored on servers and information resources across multiple platforms and diverse system environments. Identifies and resolves potential security risks and develops appropriate security controls and policies.
  • Develops and implements processes to authorize user access to data within the data governance policies and procedures. Creates user IDs, modifies/creates user rights, changes passwords and modifies security elements with each system.
  • Identifies and negotiates with external vendors to secure the most effective phone, office systems, computer systems, networking infrastructure and Merchants operations applications support contracts as well as budget determination and tracking for these areas as well.
  • Provides on-going technology innovation and research in an effort to gain efficiencies and improve Merchants associates user experience in the day to day operational activities..
Disaster Recovery & Compliance
  • Working with the CISO, maintains the Information Technology disaster recovery plan and security policies.
  • Ensures appropriate infrastructure to support disaster recovery plans and policies.
  • Schedules and conducts regular disaster recovery tests.
  • Develops appropriate technical compliance policies and ensures implementation.
System and Infrastructure Planning
  • Plans, implements and supports the network and computing infrastructure plan.
  • Provides technical expertise to business management regarding risk assessments and implementation of data security products and procedures.
  • Assists with technology planning through on-going research.
  • Working with the CISO, completes third party penetration testing on a yearly basis.
Talent Management
  • Evaluates the performance of the associates under their supervision and conducts formal performance reviews.
  • Assists in establishing performance goals for all direct reports.
  • Assists in hiring and performance management of direct reports which may include discipline and termination decisions.
  • Assists in the training of new administrators and technical support associates.
  • Recommends to the Chief Information Officer salary actions and bonus amounts for the associates that report to them.
  • Manages time off and travel schedules to assure appropriate coverage to provide effective service for clients.
QualificationsEducation and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, CS or equivalent work experience plus 8-10 years of experience in administration and technology roles in varied multi-faceted hardware, software and networking environments. 3-5 years of administration experience with hosted and virtual desktop environments. Business class networking and firewall experience and IT infrastructure operational responsibilities.
Skills And KnowledgeCurrent Microsoft Windows Servers and desktop operating systems, Linux Server administration and support, Cisco Networking, Deep understanding of Citrix environment and Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, VMWare and Hyper-V including Site Recovery Manager or similar systems, Agile and team environments, and standard Microsoft back-office products. Strong knowledge in backup and recovery systems, with Veeam being preferred. Data Loss Prevention and Mobile Device Management expertise is also desired.
Knowledge would be helpful in storage array management, Microsoft Exchange hosted and Hybrid email system, Cisco NG Firewalls and routers, understands the complete technology stack – infrastructure through software, Ruby and open-source tools. Contribute to the development and upkeep of required process and procedure documentation for cyber security, privacy, and overall systems support and maintenance.
Troubleshooting, critical thinking, thirst to learn and process improvement, organization, above average oral and written communication skills, detail orientation, problem-solving, ability to explain complex concepts in simple and understandable terms, creativity, teamwork and collaboration, ability to work independently, good judgment, planning, project management, ability to work with and meet strict deadlines, level-headed.
Essential FunctionsThis person must be able to understand complex technical information and apply that knowledge to troubleshoot hardware and software problems. They must be able to think logically and communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner. This individual has to be able to build relationships with vendors and negotiate detailed contracts as well as work with a wide variety of personalities and skill sets and provide customer support in a positive and supportive manner.
