Description

The Community Support Coordinator assists low-income participants (individuals and families) and works closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to support programming efforts. This position will make a commitment to the goal of empowerment of low-income participants of all ages and backgrounds, in rural and urban areas, to attain the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to become self-sufficient and to advocate on the behalf of themselves and others. This position requires technical skills in program development in addition to one-on-one coaching ability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These should not be construed as a complete list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so assigned.

  • Assesses immediate and ongoing needs of participants and volunteers by creating and implementing surveys, analyzing data, and encouraging a culture of regular communication and feedback within the Thriving Connections community.
  • Collaborates with staff and advisory group members to plan, implement and evaluate programming and activities aligned with participants’ needs and interests, current research in areas like mental health and brain science, and funding requirements.
  • Provides individual coaching including check-ins; goal identification, goal setting and monitoring; connecting participants to other community resources; and conducting follow-up, alone or in collaboration with Thriving Connections coach(es).
  • Creates and facilitates Captain 101 training as well as other classes and workshops related to education, sustainable employment, personal growth, structural poverty, and community-building.
  • Supervises, trains and supports staff and volunteers in skill areas including coaching, effective communication, referral, follow-up, tracking, and reporting.
  • Helps identify community-wide needs, initiate potential collaborations/partnerships, and develop programs for individuals and families that enhance self-reliance.
  • Attends community meetings about community barriers and resources.
  • Works with Thriving Connections Manager and Director of Communications and Advocacy to research and pursue grant opportunities and satisfy grant reporting requirements.
  • Communicates program announcements and shares information with participants, volunteers, and the public.

Physical & Mental Demands

Ability to use departmental equipment, tools, and materials.

Ability to exert physical effort in light to moderate work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; ability to climb and balance; tasks require perception and discrimination.

Must be able to handle diverse work problems on a daily basis. Requires ability to set priorities and work schedule yet adjust to changes necessitated by last minute assignments and deadline requests that may prove stressful. Consistent pleasant attitude is necessary with personal maturity as an important attribute. Must relate and interact with people at all levels of the company and in a culturally diverse environment.

Qualifications


Skills & Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or related field plus at least two years relevant work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing; have the ability to write reports and business correspondence; have the ability to effectively present information; Spanish speaking ability a plus;
  • Cooperate successfully as a member of a team;
  • Possess good organizational skills, with sensitivity to details; and
  • Proficiency with computer operations and possess skills preferably with MS Office.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able within one year of hire date to obtain Family Development Credentials issued by the Official National Family Development Credential Program
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Ability to travel locally, regionally, and nationally to attend to daily work demands, meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle with required liability insurance for use in business related travel.
  • Must ensure efficient operations and present a professional image in conduct, attitude, and attire.
  • Must be philosophically compatible with the mission of SCCAP.
