WORK SITE: 101 West Waukau Ave, Oshkosh, WI 54902

PAY: Salaried, Exempt. Based on Experience.

DURATION/USUAL HOURS PER WEEK: Permanent, Full-Time/40-50 Hours per Week Min.

SHIFT/WORKDAYS: First shift Only. Monday through Friday. 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Occasional Saturdays as Needed.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Responsible for assigning, directing, supervising, and working with various manufacturing functions comprised of Coil Winding and Finishing, Subassembly, Assembly, Transfer Molding, Telephone, and Machine Shop functions, under the general direction of the Vice President, General Manager. Duties involve the implementation of company plans, programs, policies, and objectives concerning the production of a wide variety of electrical and telephone transformers.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct, supervise and work with approximately 20-30 subordinate employees in the performance of various manufacturing functions. Work from authorized requisitions, work orders or other data to plan and assign daily work of subordinate employees.
  • Open plant facility prior to the beginning of each operational day. Assure that the plant and its equipment are maintained in a safe, clean, and efficient condition.
  • Monitor production schedules and work performance, anticipate interference or delays caused by material shortage, absenteeism, productivity, or other causes and take remedial action. Make recommendations on force requirements, changes at the workplace, new tools, and equipment. Collaborate with others in the development of tools and fixtures.
  • Remain abreast of the progress of all production orders. Provide weekly updated production orders' status to the Sales Department. Convene production meetings as needed to provide support in the development of production plans, policies and objectives, and other matters of concern.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality or efficiency. Collaborate with Purchasing, Production scheduling, and Shipping to support a timely delivery of all products. Collaborate with Engineering and Quality Assurance in the development of specifications to meet customer requirements in a cost-effective manner. Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, and other Management personnel to assure that equipment is maintained, required materials are available, and specifications are adhered to. Work closely with the Engineering Laboratory as new products are developed and redesigned.
  • Implement company policies and procedures and assure that all safety regulations and standard operating procedures are adhered to.
  • Direct, assist and train subordinate employees in the proper performance of their work. Determine manpower requirements. Provide direction and response to grievances at the primary level. Participate in collective bargaining and in the grievance process, as required. Appraise work performance, make recommendations on new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations. Collaborate with the Human Resources department on employee relations matters, safe practices and adherence to the labor agreement.
  • Attend meetings and outside Technical Seminars to remain abreast of up-to-date plant engineering methods and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or associated with the responsibility.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Knowledge of electrical transformer manufacturing practices, methods, and procedures. Familiar with transformer specifications and testing requirements. Comprehensive mechanical, electrical, and maintenance skills tailored for custom magnetics production. Equivalent to high school plus a broad specialized training comparable to 2 years of college or a complete apprenticeship.
  • Experience: Over 4 years up to and including 5 years of production supervisory experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Complexity of Duties: Considerable judgment is required to work independently toward general results, monitor production performance and take remedial action to offset delays and production interference. Devise new or modify existing methods and procedures to meet new requirements. Make decisions guided by precedent and within limits of established policies. Adept problem-solving skills to address challenges encountered across the factory floor.
  • Supervision received: Under general direction with little functional guidance. Refer to superior on matters of policy clarification and interpretation.
  • Errors: Considerable accuracy and responsibility is involved. Probable errors in judgement on manufacturing or personnel problems may result in excessive costs or extensive labor problems and disruption of production.
  • Contacts with Others: Strong ability to work with and across multiple departments. Tact is required to avoid friction and obtain cooperation. Contacts within the Company in carrying out company manufacturing and personnel policies.
  • Confidential Data: Regularly work with production plans, policies, related schedules, and confidential personnel information concerning subordinates. Disclosure may have adverse internal effects.
  • Mental or Visual Demand: Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention along with manual coordination for over 50% of the time.
  • Working Conditions: Somewhat undesirable working conditions due to exposure to all shop conditions.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible scheduling to cover for other supervisors during their vacation periods as needed.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operations of the WI facility within a unionized factory environment.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused outlook.
  • Proactive and tenacious Supervisor for a manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with an ERP system required. NetSuite a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills.
