The Opportunity: Philanthropy Event and Outreach Manager
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s Philanthropy and Community Relations department is seeking an Event and Outreach Manager. The Philanthropy Event and Outreach Manager is responsible for implementing the philanthropy team’s annual fundraising events, community engagement initiatives, onsite events, and third-party philanthropic campaigns. The manager oversees successful event planning, promotion, execution, and assessment of all events. The manager works closely with the Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations and the philanthropy team in the collective stewardship of HSBV supporters and community partners.
This position is exempt/salaried and scheduled for 40 hours per week. Weekend availability is required to be considered for the role. Preferred candidates will have the flexibility to work extended hours and weekends as needed to support the occasional event, training, meeting, or fundraising function. There is the possibility for occasional remote work once the manager is acclimated or more established in their role.

You may have formal project or event management experience, or you may be gifted with the ability to infuse business objectives with fun and creativity.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Event Management
  • Oversees planning, budgeting, coordination, and implementation of HSBV’s special events and promotions including Puttin’ On The Leash, Doggie Dash, donor receptions, and events related to fundraising, outreach, and donor relations.
  • Launches and directs event logistics for philanthropy events including creative details, site mapping, budget management, security, technical arrangements, vendor coordination, signage and supply procurement, volunteer staffing plans, contract negotiation, and permit acquisition
  • Responsible for the individual event budgets and overall event budget management: event revenue, expenses, and obtaining net goal.
  • Working closely with the marketing and communications team, develops event promotional goals, implements marketing plans, designs event materials, and ensures promotional promises are fulfilled.
  • Responsible for creating and coordinating volunteer staffing plan for each event. Works collaboratively with the volunteer services department to satisfy event support needs and volunteer communications. Identifies volunteer leaders and committee chairs and coordinates event planning committees.
  • Coordinates event correspondence for sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and all event support.
  • Assists with the creation of new events and the improvement to existing events, focusing on strategic donor stewardship and increased fundraising.
  • Provides post-event evaluations, reporting, and analytics to identify new opportunities and ensure return on event investment (ROI).
  • Proactively communicates with leadership and department leads across the organization to bring awareness to event scheduling, fundraising promotions, and engagement events.
Community Outreach and Engagement
  • In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy and Community Relations, designs and implements annual community partnerships and outreach events including development of collateral, prospecting, securing commitments, and fulfillment.
  • Implements outreach events in support of HSBV’s strategic community engagement priorities. Examples might include participation in Boulder Pride Fest and Lights of December Parade.
  • Creates and manages annual philanthropy outreach and event calendar.
  • Manages and coordinates third-party fundraisers, drives, and special events. Responds to third-party event requests and consults with the director to develop consistent messaging.
  • Coordinates with other departments requests for student interviews, and community tours of the facility. Coordinates corporate volunteer program in collaboration with the volunteer services department.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and Community Relations Manager on the design of all HSBV promotional items, and branded giveaways.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, non-profit management or a related field of study preferred but not required. At least two (2) years of experience managing large, special events, nonprofit fundraising and/or sales experience required. We will also consider any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License with an insurable driving record. A pre-employment background check and drug screen are required of all employment candidates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of large-scale special events management, budgeting and meeting planning strongly preferred. Experience with volunteers or staff in a nonprofit environment strongly preferred. Intermediate skills in a Windows environment including Microsoft Office. Effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and time management skills. Proven ability to see a project through to completion; ability to follow directions and comply with requirements. Ability to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy, and detail oriented.
Work Environment
Work environment is primarily an office setting, sitting at a desk, using a telephone and computer regularly. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.; frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting and stooping. Frequent exposure to animals; potentially subject to animal bites and scratches, zoonotic diseases, and cleaning agents. Periodically required to drive to acquire, purchase, or transport goods and supplies on behalf of HSBV. There is opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement 1-2 days per week based on job responsibilities.
What We Offer
The anticipated pay range for this position is $59,000- $64,000 earned annually. This pay range is the Humane Society of Boulder Valley’s best estimate for this position and actual compensation will be based on factors including but not limited to the depth and extent of relevant experience, education, and additional training/certifications for preferred skills. Additional compensation is available for qualified employees who can translate for our Spanish-speaking clientele. Included in the HSBV compensation package:
