Job Description Summary

The Applications Scientist will join our Custom Solutions and Support team. This role requires scientific rigor, excellent communication skills and an ability to work on multiple biological problems at once.

The successful candidate will join an energetic team that works cross-functionally with PhenocyclerTM-Fusion and PhenoImager HT™. A background in cancer research, immunology, infectious disease biology or and neuroscience is required. Required experimental skills include a solid knowledge of immunohistochemistry (IHC), optical imaging, image- and/or bioinformatic analyses. Additional experience with highly multiplexed protein analyses, in-situ hybridization and molecular biology are considered a plus.

Clear communication skills and project management skills are very important. Since our pace is very fast, agility, flexibility and an open mind are required every day.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Testing, optimization, and validation of antibodies for tissue staining
• Purification and conjugation of novel antibody targets to CODEX oligo barcodes
• Immunohistochemistry (IHC) and immunofluorescence (IF) experiments on fresh frozen or FFPE tissue sections
• Sectioning of paraffin-embedded, formalin-fixed tissues
• Mastery of multiple distinct staining workflows; ability to teach workflows to team and customers
• Using automated staining systems
• Epifluorescence imaging and interpretation of staining results
• Research new staining targets and prepare presentations on target biology and expected staining patterns
• General laboratory management including maintenance of reagent households and laboratory equipment
• Design and carry out experiments; interpret and present data during lab meetings
• Develops simple study protocols or portions of complex protocols
• May track expenses and monitor budget
• Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills

• MSc in Life Sciences or PhD with minimum 5 years of experience in a laboratory
• Experience with IHC is a must.
• Good knowledge of chemistry is a plus
• Experience with image analysis is expected
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Ability to organize, prioritize and manage workflows
• Ability to troubleshoot and work independently under pressure of deadlines and the desire to work in a fast paced, team environment

The hiring range for this position is $81,000 - $107,000 per year, which may factor in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. Our full-time regular positions also include an annual performance-based bonus (or a sales incentive plan) and long-term incentive units (equity) provided as part of our compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
