POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title : Community Relations Specialist

Department : Community Development

Classification : Exempt

Salary Range : $ 55,000 - $ 67,000 Annually

POSITION PURPOSE

The Community Relations Specialist is a motivated, high energy, creative and experienced individual committed to help drive community outreach and engagement for the Credit Union.

This Specialist is responsible for coordinating and developing sustainable and meaningful relationships with community-based organizations, the credit union’s broader community, and existing and potential members with the goal of increasing the credit union’s viability and positive impact within the community.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing fluent support as a resource to the Spanish-Speaking community and have experience in community outreach, volunteerism or relationship-building with diverse groups of people.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates, organizes, plans and executes deliverables for HFCU’s Community Outreach efforts, organizational sponsorships and events closely aligned with the Credit Union’s mission and strategy.

Includes internal and external coordination and communications, recruiting employee volunteers and coordinating Marketing materials (e.

g., logos, flyers, giveaways, signage, etc.).

  • Identify key stakeholders, such as community leaders, organizations, and influencers, and build relationships with them to foster positive partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain a database of community contacts, partnerships, and collaborations.
  • Prepare reports documenting community relations activities and their impact on the organization.
  • Cultivates relationships with key personnel at partner organizations to maintain HFCUs position as a benefit to their clients and employees through volunteer program development, volunteer recruitment and organizational event planning.
  • Develop and coordinates community outreach programs, including financial education programs, and special events that positively influence public opinion or promotes products, services, or perception of the Credit Union.
  • Work closely with the Community Development Officer, Marketing Team, Financial Development Center Manager and Retail Leadership on outreach strategies that raise community awareness.
  • Partner with Marketing on larger / longer-term brand sponsorships (e.g., sports or venue-specific) to execute various Marketing deliverables as well as ideas to help drive business during, and as a result of, sponsored events.
  • Develop community engagement tracking and reporting tool(s) and processes.
  • Assist in developing community engagement metrics, tracking and reporting tool(s) and processes.
  • In-person representation at events and community gatherings (e.g., check presentation photos, community events, financial education seminars, etc.

Requirements

  • Passionate about helping others and serving our community.
  • Superior inter personal skills with ability to communicate with organizational partners and multiple levels of the organizational hierarchy.
  • Available and willing to work scheduled hours, evenings and weekends when needed. Requires ability to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Proven experience in community engagement, public relations, or a related field.
  • Ability to use initiative and independent judgement.
  • Ability to effectively relate to co-workers, members, and partners using excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, manage and perform multiple tasks presented by more than one person.
  • Ability to work with community organizations and local governments in an effort to promote the Credit Union and expand its services in the community.
  • A wide degree of creativity is expected, as has the ability to use prior experience to set and meet goals.
  • Detail oriented and able to meet deadlines.
  • Must have a dependable transportation, local travel is a must. Mileage is reimbursable.
  • Demonstrate technical competence.
  • Ability to perform basic math, spelling, and grammar.
  • Ability to use a computer without assistance using Windows-based software.
  • Possess in depth knowledge of the financial products and services offered by HFCU.
  • Ability to also work independently, taking ownership of daily activities that align with Credit Union goals.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Certification : Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Event Coordination or related field from a four-year college or university.

required knowledge : Strong knowledge of community or business development or industry equivalent. This position requires that the employee gain a working knowledge of Bank Secrecy ACA (BSA) requirements and how they will affect their work.

The employee will comply with all requirements of the BSA and cooperate with the designated BSA Officer in assuring compliance.

Experience Required : Two years of work in public relations OR at least two years of work in a field related to the company preferred.

Demonstrated experience in planning and executing successful community engagement initiatives.

Skills / Abilities : Ability to effectively communicate the organization’s mission and specific program-related objectives.

Ability to project a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times. Ability to manage daily tasks as assigned and work with community members.

Needs to be available for outside meetings and events. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) proficiently in Spanish and English highly desirable.
