REACH Academy Charter School
Elementary School Principal Job Description
The successful candidate will provide the leadership and management necessary to administer and supervise all programs, policies and activities of REACH Academy Charter Elementary School and to ensure high quality educational experiences and services for the scholars in a safe and enriching environment. The successful candidate will also model the mission of REACH Academy Charter Elementary School.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the unique needs and characteristics of REACH Academy Charter Elementary School.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement rules and procedures for programs, services and discipline.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use word processing, database and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of current educational trends and research.
  • Skill in human interaction and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to read, interpret, follow and enforce the Code of Ethics, Board of Trustees policies and other state and federal laws.
  • Ability to use effective interview techniques, coaching procedures and evaluation procedures.
  • Ability to use effective public speaking skills, group dynamics and interaction and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a sensitivity to multicultural issues.
  • Ability to perceive the impact of a decision on other components of the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize activities related to assignment.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and use data in decision-making.
  • Ability to tolerate highly stressful situations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Advocates for the scholars, staff, and school, (e.g. responsive to parents and community, creates a welcoming climate and culture, markets school programs, promotes and emphasizes support for parental involvement) for the purpose of encouraging and promoting community involvement and outreach.
  • Composes a wide variety of materials (e.g. quantity reports, scholar activities, correspondence, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Delegates responsibility for a variety of administrative functions to other personnel for the purpose of managing the workload more efficiently.
  • Supports curriculum and instruction on campus (e.g. enforces grade level standards, provides opportunities for enrichment and intervention, encourages differentiated instruction for all scholars, creates and supports learning communities, sets high expectations, displays strong educational leadership qualities, and maintains a continuous improvement mindset) for the purpose of increasing scholar achievement.
  • Participates as a strong member of the instructional team
  • Evaluates assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that standards are achieved, compliance with job descriptions is obtained, and performance is maximized.
  • Facilitates communication (oral and written) between personnel, scholars and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
  • Instructional Leader for the Elementary School Location under the direction of the Head of Schools and Director of Instruction(e.g. responsible for scholar achievement, focused conversations with teachers, daily classroom visits, shares and models effective teaching strategies, confronts classroom mediocrity, has high expectations, provides structure, strong disciplinarian, creates and maintains positive school climate (orderly), drive to move school forward, and includes all staff in the team effort in promoting scholar achievement)
  • Model for all staff (e.g. develops personal growth plans for self and all staff, ensures quality staff development at school site, creates and supports learning communities, uses and models use of technology, models behaviors of a lifelong learner) for the purpose of creating an environment where staff and scholars are successful.
  • Presents information (e.g. budget overviews, distribution formulas, school improvement plan, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and ensuring adherence to established internal controls.
  • Assists other personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Promotes use of assessment data (e.g. monitors scholars progress, conducts and uses assessment data to guide instruction, uses academic support systems) for the purpose of increasing scholar achievement.
  • Represents the school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Head of Schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Valid SBL/SDL from New York State preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years successful educational experience, including teaching AND at least two (2) years as either a principal or assistant principal in a middle school setting or equivalent role.
  • Satisfactory NYS fingerprinting background check
