The Missouri Historical Society is accepting applications from current college students who are interested in a career in marketing or communications and seek a paid internship within its Marketing and Communications (MarComm) Department. The Marketing intern will conduct marketing analysis and research on a variety of topics and propose recommendations to enhance MHS's current marketing strategies. The intern will also optimize an existing marketing platform and provide administrative support to the MarComm team.

Schedule

This is an in-person internship with a hybrid work option. The intern may work up to 15 hours per week in fall 2024, but the schedule is flexible. The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor. The intern will report to the Digital Communications Manager.

The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Researching a topic area, such as influencer marketing, membership drives, or museum shop promotion
  • Making strategic recommendations to enhance existing communications plans
  • Participating in marketing brainstorming sessions
  • Reorganizing and optimizing a high-use platform, such as MHS's MailChimp database or YouTube channel
  • Providing live social media coverage at occasional events
  • Supporting the MarComm team with administrative tasks

Intern qualifications:

  • Marketing, communications, or related area of study preferred
  • Creative problem-solving skills and strong written-communication skills
  • Highly organized self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Availability to attend occasional evening or weekend events
  • Familiarity with MailChimp and/or YouTube a plus

Learning objectives:

  • Strengthen skills in marketing, communications planning, and project management
  • Gain an understanding of how to conduct market research
  • Gain experience in the field of nonprofit marketing and communications
