Soldiers Memorial Military Museum is accepting applications from undergraduate or graduate students interested in a paid internship within Soldiers Memorial Military Museum's Administrative Department. This internship is on-site only, and the intern will report to the Site Coordinator.

The Administrative and Operations Intern will assist with the development of Soldiers Memorial Military Museum's signature Memorial Day event, coordinate a military rental from the planning stage to execution, and create an extensive list of past rental partners to use in the future. The intern will also gain an understanding of daily operations by exploring all departments within the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum and assist with front desk navigational duties.

Schedule

The intern will be expected to work 8 to 10 hours per week for 10 weeks. Workdays are typically Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm. The schedule is flexible dependent upon the intern's availability.

The final schedule will be determined with the supervisor.

The intern's responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Assist in project management of Memorial Day events
  • Coordinate a military rental from the planning stage to execution
  • Create extensive list of past rental partners for future promotion
  • Gain an understanding of daily operations by exploring all departments within Soldiers Memorial Military Museum
  • Serve as a front-line Navigator to assist guests during their visit to Soldiers Memorial Military Museum

Intern qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student studying history, public history, museum studies, or a related field
  • Interest in museum operations, museum administration, public programs, and visitor engagement
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, experience with Office 365
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with staff and visitors
  • Experience in visitor engagement or public communication
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, self-motivate, and work independently or with a team

Learning objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of project management and program development within the museum field
  • Develop visitor engagement skills
  • Strengthen interpersonal communication skills with colleagues and volunteers
  • Gain experience in the museum administrative/operations field
