Planner / Buyer Job Objective
Responsible for planning production schedules and assisting in purchasing materials as assigned. Constantly monitors the production schedule, supplier commitments, and work center capacities and makes necessary changes to the schedule depending upon changes in resource availability and product shipment due date changes. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Material Manager.
Planner / Buyer Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Communicates production and supplier activities and status updates with engineering, purchasing, and operations during regular meetings and via email.
· Pulls data from ERP system to maintain, update, and distribute the materials shortage report to appropriate team members at regular intervals.
· Assists in planning and monitoring the build schedule to ensure on-time delivery of products to customers.
· Processes purchase orders efficiently and in a timely manner.
· Issues bid requests to potential vendors and suppliers and negotiates pricing and terms to ensure the best options for receipt of materials. Tracks and documents cost savings.
· Utilizes forecasting and shortage reports to follow up with suppliers and other material group team members to achieve on-time delivery dates for production needs.
· Performs expediting activities as needed to follow up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
· Manages, reviews, and updates the backlog report regularly.
· Assists in building and maintaining the supplier scorecard. Collects data and information as needed for supplier score card and other reports.
· Reviews exception reports to perform supply demand analysis.
· Cross-trains with buyers and planners to be fully functional and capable of assisting in all functions of the department.
· Coordinates with other team members to monitor inventory levels and plan monthly cycle counting activities. Performs inventory counts and reconciles cycle counting results.
· Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and organization.
Planner / Buyer Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related program; or equivalent combination of education and experience
· 3 years of experience in production scheduling & 2 years of purchasing experience
· APICS certification preferred
· Demonstrates highly ethical behaving and good judgment
· Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
· Strong ERP experience (ERP/MRP Tier II or III software); JobScope experience preferred
· Strong interpersonal skills – ability to build rapport and interact with all internal company personnel and outside vendors and business partners
· Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills
· Ability to change priorities quickly
· Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship
