Job Summary:

Manages and guides a team of in-house translators assigned to a geographical area. Plans and organizes the team’s workload in collaboration with the Translation & Localization Manager. Collaborates with stakeholders on setting project deadlines and prioritizing projects to meet company goals and client demand in languages they oversee. Ensures high quality and efficiency of all translation and localization projects in languages they oversee. Provides consistent mentoring and training to all their direct reports or coordinates training sessions with other resources.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the translation and localization workflow following the company’s guidelines and quality standards for their assigned geographical area. Provides timely status updates to the Translation and Localization Manager.
  • Supports the interview and hiring process of new employees under the direction of the Translation and Localization Manager.
  • Trains, develops, coaches, mentors, and motivates team members in areas such as work quality, time management, setting goals and priorities, professional development, etc.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and structured coaching. Handles disciplinary actions as required for all assigned team members according to company policy.
  • Organizes and runs regular team meetings.


Other Principal Responsibilities:

  • Monitors the team’s work quality and progress to ensure deadlines are met and to identify training gaps. Evaluates client feedback and correction/update requests with the respective Language and Localization Specialist and ensures prompt implementation and documentation of approved changes.
  • Guides Language and Localization Specialists in established best practices. Gives advice regarding internal and external resources (e.g., SMEs, specialized dictionaries, thesauruses, reference books). Overseas the maintenance of databases and knowledge bases. Supports translation efforts in minimal capacity during peak times and to stay current on the use of translation resources (software, guides, methods).
  • Acts as an expert resource for translation and localization projects and inquiries as assigned by the Translation and Localization Manager.
  • Ensures effective cross-team collaboration; represents the team in meetings and while working on projects with other departments.
  • Communicates objectives and clear instructions to the team and other departments involved in projects, ensuring that no one on either side misses any important information.
  • Supports a team culture in which innovation is encouraged, high performance is recognized, and success is celebrated.
  • Supports the formal documentation of the team’s procedures and ensures continuous updates as assigned by the Translation & Localization Manager.
  • Acts as an expert resource for computer-assisted translation (CAT) software and encourages translators in their quality assurance efforts to help maintain quality translation memory.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement, new processes, and technologies to make the linguistic tasks more time and cost efficient.
  • Continues their own professional development in order to keep abreast of emerging technologies, methods, and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of study (foreign language, linguistics, localization, education, communications, project management, etc.) or equivalent education and experience
  • 3 years of translation/localization experience
  • Native fluency in two or more languages (one being English)
  • Advanced verbal and written skills in both English and foreign language(s)
  • Thorough working knowledge of SDL Trados (Live and Studio) as well as Language Weaver or other translation software
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects
  • Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize work and deal with changing priorities
  • Completed protocol training in EMD, EFD, EPD, ECN (as applicable for the respective languages)
  • Experience with Q process
  • Experienced in use of ProQA, AQUA, CDE Builder, LowCode (as applicable for the respective languages)
  • Proficiency with common office software (Office 365)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Translation certification(s) preferred
  • Previous experience in supervisory role preferred

Physical and Other Requirements:

This is a typical office job which requires the ability to sit for long periods of time at a desk with occasionally moving, standing, and walking. Requires use of arms, hands, or fingers, in handling or manipulating objects, or operating equipment, tools and/or instruments requiring fine eye-hand coordination. Occasionally requires repeated bending, crouching, stretching, or crawling, along with regularly lifting 10 – 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Work environment is composed of moderate noise (examples: business office with computer and printers, light traffic).


Independent Judgement

Employee acts independently to handle complex problems. Helps direct reports in finding solutions to more unusual problems. Involves manager as necessary.
