Job Summary:

The B.B. Teacher’s main function is to supervise and monitor the safety of children in their care while their parents are working.

General Responsibilities:

• Welcome members into the Center.
• Maintain cleanliness of the center.
• Clean rooms, hallway, bathrooms front, back and inside.
• Keep playground clean and safe for all guest, and members.
• Attend all scheduled meetings
• Wear assigned uniforms
• Must have high level of energy and patience.
• Report all concerns, including red-flag behaviors and policy violations

Job Duties:

• Supervise and monitor the safety of children
• Prepare meals for children when asked
• Help children keep good hygiene
• Help children use restroom when they need help
• Organize activities or implement a curriculum that allows children to learn about the world and explore interests.
• Develop schedules and routines to ensure the children have enough physical activity, rest, and free play time.
• Play with all children that enter the center.
• Keep record of children’s behavioral issues and conflict resolution, and progress.
• Clean equipment in and outside area as listed on cleaning list.
• Enforce all YMCA policies
• Inform the children of the core values of the YMCA in positive way when disciplining a child.
• Keep all parents informed of their child’s behavior.

Skills, Education, and Experience

• Maintain an up-to-date CPR, First Aid, AED certification
• Participate and pass required state training hours
• Strong communication skills and organization skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task
• Be punctual, show up on time for your shift
• Project professional appearance
• High level of energy and creativity required
• At least 1 year of childcare experience preferred.
• All employees must complete assigned Praesidium trainings PRIOR to starting employment
• Ensure you stay up to date on all training, including abuse prevention training

Physical Qualifications:

Speaking, hearing, seeing, reading, writing, typing, lifting up to 40 pounds, walking, standing for at least 3 hours, and ability to stand and sit on the floor for extended time periods. Must be able to stand to be outside in the sun for at least 2 hours at a time.

Working Conditions:

Bright Beginnings teachers will be working with members, parents and their children daily. They will be working outside and inside depending on the time of year. They will be standing or sitting on the floor for most of the shift playing with children. They will be playing with the kids, cleaning, help to keep the room organized and clean at all times.

Restrictions:

• B.B. teachers are prohibited from using cell phones, tablets, smart watches or any other distracting devices while on shift.
• B.B teachers are prohibited to eat while they are working, unless they are eating with the children
• B.B. teachers must wear tennis shoes while working in the nursery. Must be in uniform at all times
• All employees are required to work at least 8 hours per month to maintain complimentary membership status.
• All other guidelines must be followed in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
