What You'll Do
- Under the direction of laboratory manager and senior staff, conduct routine and non-routine analysis of samples via various methodologies to identify and/or confirm sample quality and/or variation.
- Perform laboratory tests and assist in the analysis of samples.
- Calibrate, operate, maintain and may assist in troubleshooting instrumentation and equipment in the laboratory.
- Collect, reduce and evaluate data.
- Enter data into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Prepare various reports and assist in procedural development and modification.
- Assist in analyzing and evaluating technical problems, in developing experimental outlines and in scheduling analyses.
- May assist in developing new and revised procedures and techniques.
- Help prepare reagents, standards and stock chemicals as needed.
- Perform routine housekeeping jobs to support overall cleanliness of the laboratory.
- Use basic laboratory equipment such as pipettes balances, hotplates, ovens and furnaces to perform lab tasks.
- Must follow written procedures and function independently after proper training.
- Job may require work with beryllium, radioactive contamination or Asbestos containing material

- Associate's degree in chemistry or related discipline with 2 years of college chemistry and analytical laboratory experience: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience. Typical relevant experience 4–6 years.
- OR 6 or more years of education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years-of-experience requirements for this posting.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
- Background in radiochemistry preparation methods and/or use and operation of radiochemistry instrumentation is prefered but not required
