Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Technician – Building Envelope Research who will focus on fabrication of building envelope prototypes for laboratory and field evaluations, instrumentation, and collecting and analyzing the data. This position resides in the Building Envelope Materials Research (BEMR) group in the Building Materials, Systems, and Integration S, Building section and Transportation Science Division, Energy Science and Technology Directorate, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

• Fabricate building envelope prototypes as per drawings and specifications
• Instrument the prototypes for laboratory and field evaluations
• Develop data acquisition DAQ) plan and select data acquisition hardware, program the DAQ
• Collect and post process the data foe simple analysis

Basic Qualifications:

• An associate degree in mechanical engineering or electronic technology or a related discipline
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in fabrication of building envelope prototypes
• Hands on skill to install sensors such as thermocouples, thermistors, heat flus transducers, flow meters, and other sensors applicable for performance evaluations of building envelope components and systems.
• Experience to calibrate sensors applicable for performance evaluations of building envelope components and systems.
• Basic programming of Campbel Scientific DAQ
  
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience running heat flow meter tests, guarded hot box tests, moisture property evaluations, etc.
• Experience setting up building envelope panels for natural exposure tests.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
