Position Overview
A leading national general contractor is seeking a Senior MEP Project Manager to lead complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing scopes on large-scale life sciences and laboratory construction projects. This individual will play a critical leadership role in delivering highly technical facilities, including cGMP, biotech, and pharmaceutical environments. This position requires deep expertise in MEP systems, strong coordination capabilities, and experience working within a general contractor environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all MEP aspects of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
- Manage MEP subcontractors, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment
- Oversee coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Collaborate with design teams, owners, and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges
- Drive MEP preconstruction efforts including budgeting, value engineering, and constructability reviews
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, regulatory, and quality standards specific to life sciences facilities
- Monitor project schedules and proactively mitigate risks related to MEP systems
- Lead commissioning and turnover processes for complex building systems
- Mentor junior staff and support overall project delivery excellence
Qualifications
- 8–15 years of construction experience with a general contractor
- Strong background managing MEP scopes on large commercial or industrial projects
- Proven experience delivering life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, or laboratory projects
- Deep understanding of HVAC systems, cleanrooms, process piping, and electrical infrastructure
- Experience with cGMP environments and regulatory requirements preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders in complex, fast-paced project environments
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in the Raleigh-Durham / Research Triangle market
- Familiarity with commissioning and validation processes
- Background working with top ENR general contractors
