What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer position at X4 Engineering?
Electrical Engineer – Power Generation Systems
Position Summary
This role focuses on the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for a range of industrial applications, with a strong emphasis on power generation packages and supporting auxiliary equipment. The Electrical Engineer will be involved throughout the full lifecycle of electrical and control systems—from early concept and design documentation (including electrical schematics, P&IDs, control software, and functional specifications) through to commissioning, testing, and final system handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the design, development, and implementation of electrical and control systems for industrial equipment and power generation packages, including hardware/software integration, instrumentation design, DC systems, and low-/medium-voltage AC distribution.
- Act as an engineering liaison during the manufacturing of mobile power generation packages powered by gas turbines, reciprocating engines, or battery energy storage systems.
- Support commissioning activities for newly manufactured systems, ensuring electrical and control systems perform in line with functional specifications.
- Develop standardized process documentation to improve quality control and engineering consistency.
- Prepare technical component specifications to support procurement for new equipment builds.
- Develop and maintain documentation outlining procedures and criteria for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
- Review electrical system designs to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and applicable regulations.
- Support installation, commissioning, and maintenance of power generation and battery storage systems along with associated auxiliary equipment.
- Review and mark up electrical and control drawings, supporting document control processes and final drawing approvals.
- Contribute to the development of new products and the improvement of existing product lines.
- Develop and maintain electrical and control system operation and maintenance manuals.
- Work with procurement and supply chain teams to support sourcing and technical evaluation of components for new and existing systems.
- Evaluate supplier technologies and assist in the preparation of technical proposals.
- Provide on-site and remote technical troubleshooting support for deployed equipment.
- Perform other duties as required to support operational success and business continuity.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Approximately 5–7 years of experience in low- and/or medium-voltage electrical system design.
- Experience with electrical systems associated with power generation or industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and control system drawings and schematics.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems used in power generation environments is preferred.
- Familiarity with gas turbine or reciprocating engine control systems is advantageous.
- Strong technical communication skills and ability to interact with clients and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.
- Proficiency with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally for commissioning or support activities.
