What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Analyst position at Workday?
This is a contract position with hybrid expectations in Pleasanton or Atlanta.
Job Summary
We are seeking two experienced professionals to support a large-scale Salesforce reimplementation with downstream integration to Workday Financials. These roles require an equal combination of strong Salesforce and Business Analyst capabilities alongside deep, hands-on Finance and accounting expertise. The ideal candidates can navigate multiple systems confidently, understand complex Salesforce and Workday-driven business processes, translate Finance needs into requirements and Jira stories, and clearly articulate how upstream Salesforce transactions impact downstream Finance and accounting outcomes. Candidates must bring demonstrated hands-on testing experience and the ability to operate independently under aggressive timelines, including Q4 blackout and year-end periods.
Responsibilities
Provide hands-on Finance testing support, bringing strong revenue and accounting expertise to execute and validate complex scenarios spanning Revenue Accounting, Accounts Receivable, billing and invoicing, Controllership, General Ledger, and FP&A
Execute end-to-end transaction testing beginning in Salesforce and flowing through integrations into Workday Financials, validating both business process and downstream accounting outcomes
Test complex revenue, order, billing, and customer scenarios and validate resulting invoices, AR balances, revenue treatment, journal entries, GL postings, and financial reporting impacts
Develop Finance-focused test scenarios covering real-world transactions, accounting requirements, high-risk use cases, and cross-functional dependencies
Independently identify when system or accounting results do not align with expected outcomes and coordinate investigation and resolution
Partner with Finance and technology stakeholders to translate Finance needs into clear business requirements, Jira stories, acceptance criteria, and end-to-end test scenarios
Align requirements and stories across multiple Finance teams including Revenue, FP&A, Controllership, and AR, ensuring complete end-to-end coverage
Own requirements traceability and change management, including documenting changes, assessing impacts, and maintaining alignment through design, build, testing, and release
Identify gaps, dependencies, and conflicting requirements across workstreams and drive them to resolution
Support Jira backlog grooming, story refinement, release planning, and cross-functional working sessions
Lead and coordinate Finance UAT scrum ceremonies, driving testing progress, priorities, blockers, defects, and actions
Develop and maintain comprehensive test scripts, scenarios, expected results, requirements traceability, and testing evidence
Coordinate testing across multiple Finance teams, testers, systems, and workstreams
Track execution, requirements coverage, defects, retesting, and business sign-offs through Jira
Coordinate test-data staging across Salesforce, Workday, and integrated systems
Drive cross-functional defect triage and coordinate resolution across business and technical teams
Support regression, integration, end-to-end, and release-readiness testing while managing multiple competing priorities and aggressive timelines
Skills
Strong hands-on Salesforce experience, including the ability to navigate objects, fields, workflows, transaction flows, and upstream and downstream dependencies
Deep Finance and accounting expertise, particularly with revenue-related transactions, and the ability to independently test and validate financial outcomes
Ability to execute transactions end-to-end and validate resulting revenue treatment, invoices, AR balances, journal entries, debits and credits, and GL impacts
Strong BA capabilities across requirements gathering, Jira story writing, acceptance criteria, process analysis, requirements traceability, and change management
Demonstrated experience coordinating UAT across multiple teams, including test-script development, UAT scrums, execution tracking, defect management, retesting, and sign-off
Strong Jira experience for requirements management, story coordination, testing tracking, and defect management
Highly organized, driven, and independent, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, stakeholders, and competing priorities simultaneously
Comfortable operating under tight release, quarter-end, and year-end timelines
Strong cross-functional communication and coordination skills across Finance, Salesforce and technology, and program teams
Experience
Direct, hands-on experience supporting complex Workday Financials implementations, reimplementations, or large-scale transformation programs
Demonstrated experience working with Finance business processes, data, transaction flows, and downstream system dependencies in a Salesforce-integrated environment
Hands-on experience testing scenarios spanning Revenue Accounting, AR, billing and invoicing, GL, Controllership, and financial reporting
Experience with Workday Financials strongly preferred; experience with another major financial ERP will be considered
This is a rare opportunity to play a central, high-impact role in a complex, enterprise-scale transformation at the intersection of Salesforce, Workday Financials, and Finance operations. You will work alongside senior Finance and technology stakeholders, influence critical design and testing decisions, and leave a lasting mark on how a major organization manages its end-to-end financial lifecycle β all within a fast-paced, high-visibility program where your expertise will be recognized and relied upon from day one.
