Description and Responsibilities

The Childcare Worker creates and maintains a safe and stimulating environment for children (ages 1-5), while providing care and activities for children’s learning programs in a structured setting and to assist with program planning and coordination.

 Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Planning and carrying out recreational activities for all ages of children, including family groups.
  • Inviting mothers to participate, as appropriate.
  • Help develop a non-punitive atmosphere in the Children's Program by assisting mothers and children in learning means of non-violent conflict resolution. 
  • Implement individual plans for children, as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate records and progress notes on children.
  • Assist mothers in developing parenting skills.
  • Advocate for children and provide them with emotional support.
  • Assist in other children's program's as necessary.
  • Maintain the orderliness of the classroom and related areas.
  • Clean areas and toys as required to maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
  • At times, may provide oversight to the activities of volunteers working with children.

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or the equivalent, required.
  • A certificate in childcare, early childhood education or related field, strongly preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience working with children pre-school to K, required.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering effective learning activities, required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within an urban setting preferred and with a diverse population, required.
  • Driver's License & Passing of MVR (motor vehicle record search), required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service of others, required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication, both verbal and in writing, required.
  • Bilingual or conversational in addition to English, preferred. 
  • Must provide Satisfactory Child Abuse, Criminal and FBI clearances. (Any expenses paid by employer)
  • Must attend/complete upcoming Domestic Violence Advocate Paid Training (February 17 - March 5)
