Custodian/Maintenance Worker - Childcare Center

Child Care Custodian – Immediate Openings

Discovery Place is expanding its maintenance staff and is seeking energetic experienced candidates who can perform tasks related to maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of our early learning childcare centers.

Custodians help keep our Toddlers and Preschoolers healthy and safe by performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout their day. Because our Custodians are so vital, they are considered Essential Workers and are valued within Discovery Place. Ideally, Custodians take initiative, work independently and/or with instruction from time to time to complete tasks, and uphold their responsibility of properly maintaining the conditions of our child care centers.

Primary responsibilities:

• Clean, sanitize and maintain our facilities; this can include enforcing Building rules and reporting issues that need attention as observed
• Clean floors, furniture, restrooms, carpets, windows etc.
• Strip, scrub, wax and buff floors.
• Perform simple repairs and maintenance tasks as needed and observed.
• Maintain the outdoor areas, including playground and other property grounds.
• Restock supplies and other inventory as needed.
• Perform other tasks as they are assigned by a supervisor.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Lifting & Carrying: Frequently lift, move, and transport heavy equipment or materials weighing up to 50 lbs; working with heavier items may be required.
• Mobility & Posture: Regularly stand, walk, and remain on your feet throughout the work day. Required to frequently climb steps, bend, stoop, and perform repetitive movements.
• Attention To Detail: Must have high attention to detail, be reliable, maintain great attendance, and report concerns as observed.
• Health & Safety: Must maintain health and safety through safe practices daily and be open to feedback. This role will handle various chemicals, tools, and responsibilities that could pose safety concerns and hazards to children and staff if poorly managed.
• Culture: Must be customer service oriented, maintain respectful communication, and model behaviors that provide positive examples to other staff, children, and families within the Discovery Place community.

Qualifications:

• HS Diploma (preferred)
• Must consent to requirements of Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, NSOR, FBI Fingerprinting, and other necessary checks required to work within a Childcare Center.
• Must have a Drivers License, good driving record, and be willing to maintain transport duties safely and consistently.
• Must have high attention to detail, maintain safety and safe practices, and be customer service oriented.
