Position Summary:
We are seeking a results-driven and detail-oriented Marine Construction Project Manager to oversee marine infrastructure construction projects. This role involves coordinating with internal teams, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure successful project planning, execution, and closeout.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, experience in heavy civil or marine construction, and can manage all aspects of project delivery — including budgeting, permitting, scheduling, quality assurance, and stakeholder communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Execution
- Plan, organize, and manage marine construction projects (e.g., seawalls, piers, dredging, breakwaters, foundations).
- Lead pre-construction activities including budgeting, permitting, and scheduling.
- Execute projects according to approved plans, timelines, and quality standards.
- Work with foremen and superintendents to coordinate daily operations and fieldwork.
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Investigate issues such as delays, complaints, and construction problems, and implement corrective actions.
Team Coordination & Supervision
- Assign workers and subcontractors to specific tasks and monitor progress.
- Collaborate with estimators, engineers, and dispatchers to ensure resource availability and productivity.
- Provide coaching, oversight, and quality assurance to the project team.
- Participate in corporate and client meetings to communicate goals, performance, and expectations.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, engineers, and regulatory agencies.
- Manage communication with stakeholders, ensuring transparency on progress, changes, and deliverables.
- Represent the company in negotiations, site visits, and project meetings.
- Maintain strong working relationships to support repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Financial Oversight & Documentation
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, financial reports, and cost tracking.
- Approve expenditures, manage cash flow projections, and control project spending.
- Develop and maintain project documentation (e.g., contracts, permits, inspection reports).
- Prepare reports for clients, funders, and senior management regarding budget, progress, and risk.
Regulatory, Quality & Safety
- Obtain necessary permits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Develop and implement quality control programs.
- Enforce site safety protocols and promote a safety-first culture.
- Evaluate construction methods to ensure cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Marine Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management within marine experience.
- Familiarity with marine construction equipment, techniques, and permitting processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and teams.
- Proficient with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera), and MS Office Suite.
- Strong budgeting, scheduling, and contract management skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred:
- PMP or PE certification.
- Experience working with federal/state DOT or USACE projects.
- Knowledge of dredging, coastal protection, pile driving, and marine foundation systems.
- Military or veteran background highly valued.
Work Environment:
- Split between office and active job sites (coastal or marine environments).
- May involve travel and working in outdoor conditions including inclement weather.
- Requires ability to manage field personnel and navigate marine construction logistics.
