Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Heavy Civil Operating Foreman to oversee field operations on heavy civil construction projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sitework, grading, utilities, roadwork, and/or structural concrete, along with excellent leadership and equipment operation skills.
As the Operating Foreman, you will be responsible for supervising crews, managing daily operations, ensuring safety and quality standards, and coordinating with project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of laborers, equipment operators, and subcontractors on site.
- Operate heavy equipment (e.g., dozers, excavators, loaders) as needed to support production.
- Interpret and implement construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Plan and schedule daily work activities in coordination with the Superintendent.
- Monitor work progress and adjust as necessary to meet production goals.
- Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Maintain daily logs, timecards, and production records.
- Inspect work to ensure quality and conformance with project specifications.
- Assist in training and mentoring crew members.
- Coordinate delivery and use of materials, tools, and equipment on site.
- Identify and resolve field issues in collaboration with the project team.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong working knowledge of earthmoving, grading, underground utilities, road construction, or structures.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
- Ability to operate and instruct others on various types of heavy equipment.
- Solid understanding of construction safety practices.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing project demands.
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training a plus).
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, but not required).
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physically demanding: walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, operating equipment.
- Long hours, including occasional weekends or nights depending on project demands.
