Staff Engineer

Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to department goals by supporting project delivery, fees, and profit objectives.
- Organize and conduct engineering investigations under the guidance of senior staff.
- Assist with project planning, scope development, and workflow management.
- Draft straightforward reports and support preparation of complex technical documents.
- Provide engineering services during construction, including recordkeeping, progress reporting, and observation of construction procedures.
- Research feasibility of design alternatives, site conditions, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare preliminary estimates of man-hours, costs, and materials.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as needed.
- Perform field observations, quality assurance, and quality control inspections.
Additional Engineering Duties:
- Prepare and review internal and consultant-prepared engineering reports, including:
- Bridge Foundation Investigations – ASD (Allowable Stress Design) and LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design).
- Wall Foundation Investigations – ASD and LRFD.
- Soil Survey Summaries.
- Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (if necessary).
- Other reports such as Culvert Foundation Investigations, High Mast Lighting Foundation Investigations, PDA (Pile Driving Analyzer) reports, and WEAP (Wave Equation Analysis Program) reports.
- Conduct field reconnaissance/site visits and assist with construction and maintenance problem investigations.
- Prepare cost estimates for in-house projects and man-hour estimates for consultant projects.
- Support geotechnical research and special projects as needed.
- Perform other engineering duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical concentration preferred).
- Master of Science in Geotechnical Engineering a plus.
- Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) registration preferred.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience required.
- Familiarity with Department of Transportation (DOT) projects preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
