About the Role
Bookkeeper – Public Accounting Firm
Location: Red Bank, NJ (100% Onsite, Monday–Friday)
Employment Type: Full-time
Whitman Advisory is collaborating with a respected public accounting firm in Spring Lake, New Jersey, to hire a skilled and detail-driven Bookkeeper. This position is suited for someone with solid accounting knowledge, strong technical abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality client service in a team-oriented environment.
Work Schedule
- Hours: 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Weekly Minimum: 37.5 hours
- Overtime: Required occasionally based on firm or client demands
Primary Duties
- Maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients
- Produce and interpret financial statements such as balance sheets and profit & loss reports
- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Conduct bank reconciliations and perform account analyses
- Create and enter journal entries
- Support month-end closing processes and balance sheet reviews
- Organize and maintain client documentation and supporting schedules
- Prepare payroll tax filings and ensure all related compliance requirements are met
- Manage sales tax, use tax, and other compliance submissions
- Interface directly with clients to resolve accounting discrepancies, reconciliation issues, and documentation needs
- Ensure all work follows GAAP guidelines and firm standards
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (public accounting background a plus)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (required)
- Demonstrated experience working with:
- Individuals
- Partnerships
- Corporations
- Trusts
- Mid-size businesses
- Strong knowledge of:
- Debits and credits
- Account reconciliation
- Payroll processing
Technical Expertise
- Advanced skills in QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop (minimum 3 years)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to work with multiple client accounts and software systems
- Strong analytical ability, problem-solving skills, and research capability
