Job Description

This position is responsible to for recruitment, training and scheduling of volunteers for the PA MEDI (Pennsylvania Medicare Education and Decision Insight) Program.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plan and provide training to PA MEDI volunteers on a regular and on-going basis.
  • Provide support, education, and guidance to PA MEDI volunteers.
  • Serve as back-up for the Coordinator/PA MEDI to answer Medicare counseling calls and necessary tracking.
  • Review and track volunteer hours, MIPPA (Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act) services and outreach for reporting (Monthly and Quarterly).
  • Partner with local organizations and businesses to speak with future retirees regarding Medicare benefits.
  • Develop partnerships with community organizations and provide speaker services to promote the PA MEDI program and maintain a regular schedule with senior sites and highrise locations.
  • Assist with recruiting, screening, overseeing, and training volunteers to serve as PA MEDI counselors.
  • Assist with providing support, education, and guidance to PA MEDI volunteers.
  • Oversee volunteer training, scheduling and promotion of Medicare 101 classes, comparison events, health fairs, etc.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the Area Agency of Aging of Westmoreland County and the PA Department of Aging.
  • Enter data into state reporting sites.
  • Collect, maintain and analyze program statistics.
  • Attend trainings and meetings required by the PA Department of Aging, including state conferences. Share updated
  • Medicare and State information with the PA MEDI volunteers.
  • Attend training for Long Term Care Insurance.

Other Job Functions

  • Travel to senior sites and event locations as needed.
  • Assist with PA MEDI and program promotional events.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, work groups/teams, and professional organizations.
  • Enhance professional knowledge by keeping current with emerging practices; monitor developing trends; integrate new technologies as applicable.
  • Serve as a member of President’s Council.
  • Advocate for the College and PA MEDI Programs at community events.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrated skill in planning, writing, organizing, drafting, and editing written documents.
  • Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of technical principles, theories and concepts in field of specialization.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and complex issues consistently, confidentially and professionally.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage multiple tasks in a constantly changing work environment while paying attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently make decisions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION

  • Associate’s degree in a related field required

Experience

  • 1-3 years of related work experience is required.

LICENSE

  • Valid driver’s license required

CLEARANCES

The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire:

  • PA Child History clearance
  • PA Criminal Record Check clearance
  • FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance

Preferred Qualifications

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior work experience with Medicare is preferred.
  • Related work experience in higher education is preferred.

Physical Demands

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged sitting

  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.

  • Reading and preparing documents, reports, presentations, etc.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

  • Work is primarily conducted in a typical indoor office environment with appropriate lighting, noises, and temperature control.

HAZARDS

  • Minimal risk of injury or work-related illnesses.

Salary $20.67/hr.

Schedule Days/Hours Wednesday - 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., Thursday - 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
