Overview
Responsible for high-quality customer service and accurate completion of clerical tasks at the Washington County Public Library. Position will primarily be at our Gray branch, but may require work at the Jonesborough branch as needed. Evenings and weekends required.
Requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- One (1) year of library or clerical experience. Experience may be substituted for education.
Physical Abilities:
- Must hold a valid driver’s license. Travel between the Jonesborough and Gray branches will be required.
- · Must be able to lift, push, or carry objects between 10-50 pounds with or without assistive equipment (book carts, dollies, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Explains library resources, including physical and electronic
- Assists patrons with photocopiers, computers, fax machines, including basic technology and troubleshooting assistance
- Monitors and responds to front desk and individual work emails
- Completes circulation duties such as checking in and out books, issuing library cards, collecting money, and shelving returned items
- Assists with maintaining the collection through inventory and shelf-reading (making sure items are shelved in the correct location)
- Participates in other library activities as directed by library services manager, to include programs, displays, outreach
- Comply with state training requirements
- Cleans when necessary
- Uphold policies established by the Library Board of Trustees
- Participate in system-wide initiatives and committees as required by the Library Director and Library Services Manager
knowledge of
- Microsoft Suite of products, computer applications, and current technology related to library work
- Use of standard office equipment, including computers, calculators, photocopiers, etc.
- Alphanumeric arrangement, business grammar, and cash handling
Ability to
- Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation
- Deal tactfully and effectively with a variety of individuals, including library staff, patrons and the general public
- Follow oral and written direction
- Be flexible and adaptive when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment
- Exercise sound judgment in interpreting established library policies and procedures when dealing with patrons
