Overview
The Finance Assistant is responsible for the financial record keeping for both branches of the Washington County Public Library.
Requirements
Education:
- Associate’s degree in business or a related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience in administrative or accounting
- Previous library experience preferred
Physical Abilities:
- Must hold a valid driver’s license. Position requires travel between the Jonesborough and Gray libraries, and the Washington County Administrative offices
- Must be able to lift, push, or carry objects between 10-50 pounds with or without assistive equipment (book carts, dollies, etc.)
Responsibilities
- Performs daily/ weekly account payable functions including invoice processing
- Review vendor statements to ensure invoices are received and processed timely
- Places and receives orders for supplies and equipment
- Examines and approves invoices for payment by matching with purchase order, verifying receipt of goods and services, correct pricing and taking of discounts and applying tax-free status
- Submit quotes per the Washington County Purchasing Department procedures and request new vendors as needed
- Performs daily/ weekly accounts receivable functions including daily cash reconciliation and cash deposits
- Assists with annual budget preparations and annual budget reporting to the state library and other stakeholders
- Uphold policies established by the Library Board of Trustees
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with grants, to include spending and reporting
- Participate in system-wide initiatives and committees as required by the Library Director
Knowledge of
- Microsoft Suite of products, computer applications, and current technology related to library and administrative work
- Bookkeeping/ Purchasing methodology and accurate record-keeping
Ability to
- Initiate and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
- Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation
- Analyze varied library operations and administrative problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend effective solutions or actions
- Work as an effective member of the system staff
- Write reports and business correspondence in an acceptable style and format
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from library staff, library stakeholders, and the general public
- Handle sensitive and confidential information
- Be flexible and adaptive in work responsibilities or environment

Pay: $18.00 - $20.30 per hour
