Solar Engineering Designer and Project Manager - Caribbean Island Solar Projects
The Solar Engineering Designer and Project Manager for our client to create detailed designs for solar energy systems, conducts site assessments, and manages the entire project lifecycle from conception to completion, ensuring projects are on schedule, within budget, and meet all technical and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include system design using CAD, Excel, and simulation software, budget and resource management, stakeholder coordination, and ensuring the successful installation and operation of solar power systems.
Responsibilities
System Design:
Develop and design solar power systems (PV only, PV BESS, Microgrid) for commercial, and utility-scale applications.)
Conduct site assessments to evaluate feasibility and identify optimal installation locations, including mandatory site visits in response to RFPs.
Create detailed CAD drawings, system layouts, and technical reports.
Knowledgeable in structural design requirements of PV, and PV BESS designs, including wind load design, racking systems, and ballasted system design.
Knowledgeable in electrical design requirements of PV, and PV BESS designs, including single line drawings of low voltage and medium voltage interconnections.
Perform system simulations and energy yield calculations to ensure efficiency and performance.
Participate in RFP response preparation with our Cleints' management and other experienced team members.
Maintain and/or develop key vendor relationships
Project / Construction Management:
Capable of managing all phases of solar projects, from initiation to completion, independently, or as part of a leadership team.
Develop and oversee project budgets, schedules, and resource plans.
Prepare Scope-of-Work documents for sub-contractors to solicit bids.
Supervise all on-site activities including civil, electrical, and mechanical works, managing subcontractors and local crews.
Manage logistics, including inventory and supply orders.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and environmental standards.
Ensure all work complies with health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations.
Technical & Site Management:
Contribute to Value Engineering efforts to improve design and cost, both during the 100% Design Development, and early phase installation.
Support issuance of necessary permits and approvals.
Provide technical support and on-site leadership during the installation and commissioning phases.
Evaluate and optimize system performance after installation, and document results in technical reports.
Ensure site safety and adherence to client requirements.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or a related field like Renewable Energy. Alternatively, 3-5 years of experience in commercial or utility scale solar design or renewable energy project management would qualify.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in CAD software and solar design/modeling tools like PVsyst or Helioscope.
A strong understanding of solar energy principles, technologies, and materials.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Knowledge of industry leading product lines from major equipment suppliers.
Project Management / Management Skills:
Expertise in project planning, execution, and resource management.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
Financial acumen and budget management.
Stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
Willingness to travel extensively (30-60%) and remain on-site for extended periods; valid passport required.
Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in solar design and renewable energy project management is preferred.
