The Purchasing Agent & Inventory Manager will be responsible for sourcing materials, maintaining inventory accuracy, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring products are available to meet production and customer demand.
The position works closely with sales, warehouse, operations, and leadership teams to support purchasing strategies, inventory control, forecasting, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Purchase lumber, millwork, hardware, sheet goods, mouldings, doors, and related materials
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete stock
- Monitor purchasing trends, supplier pricing, lead times, and vendor performance
- Negotiate pricing, freight terms, and delivery schedules with vendors
- Create, manage, and track purchase orders and receiving processes
- Analyze inventory turns, stock usage, and forecasting trends
- Coordinate with warehouse and production teams to ensure material availability
- Resolve vendor discrepancies, shortages, damaged shipments, and delivery issues
- Develop and improve inventory control systems and purchasing procedures
- Support reporting related to purchasing metrics and inventory valuation
- Assist in streamlining procurement and operational workflows
- 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain operations
- Experience within lumber, millwork, building materials, manufacturing, distribution, or construction supply industries preferred
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience using ERP, inventory management, or CRM systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and vendor management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
- Understanding of inventory forecasting, lead times, and warehouse operations
- Knowledge of hardwood lumber species, mouldings, sheet goods, doors, or millwork products
- Experience with inventory forecasting and purchasing analytics
- Familiarity with logistics coordination and freight management
- Process improvement mindset with strong attention to detail
- Ability to identify operational efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities
Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
