Purchasing Representative

Sears Trostel Lumber & Millwork is a leading supplier of architectural millwork, hardwood lumber, mouldings, doors, and custom building materials serving residential and commercial construction markets. We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent & Inventory Manager to help drive operational efficiency, maintain inventory accuracy, and support our growing team.

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring products are available to support production and customer demand. This role works closely with sales, operations, warehouse, and leadership teams to optimize purchasing strategies and inventory control processes.

The ideal candidate has experience in lumber, millwork, building materials, manufacturing, or construction supply environments and thrives in a fast-paced operational setting.

• Purchase lumber, millwork, hardware, sheet goods, and related materials
• Maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing excess and obsolete stock
• Monitor purchasing trends, pricing, and supplier performance
• Negotiate pricing, freight, and lead times with vendors
• Create and manage purchase orders and receiving processes
• Track inventory turns, usage trends, and stock forecasting
• Coordinate with warehouse and production teams on material availability
• Resolve vendor discrepancies, shortages, and damaged goods
• Develop systems and processes to improve inventory accuracy and purchasing efficiency
• Support management reporting on inventory valuation and purchasing metrics

• 3 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or supply chain experience
• Experience in lumber, millwork, construction materials, manufacturing, or distribution preferred
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Experience with ERP, inventory management, or CRM systems
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Strong communication and vendor relationship skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools
• Understanding of lead times, forecasting, and warehouse operations

• Knowledge of hardwood lumber species, sheet goods, mouldings, doors, or millwork products
• Experience with inventory forecasting and purchasing analytics
• Familiarity with logistics and freight coordination
• Process improvement mindset with strong attention to detail
